CD-R's.

I bought some Maxell CD-R's on sale for $29.99. Are they really better than the ones I could've gotten for $19.99?
I have a bunch of CD's in the car that are becomeing delaminated. My assumption is that it's a mix of abuse and crap CD's. Maybe it's just because they sit in the car 24/7 for over a year and are tossed in and out of the CD shelf in the car with no protection.

Which do you buy?

Cars tend to get extremely hot in hot temperatures, so if you had any of those over the year, I'm not surprised at all.

I have a spindle of el-cheapo CDRs for every day burning, and a box of high quality spiffy ones (they look like old fashioned vinyl records) for special occasions, burns for other people etc. I've had many more burning and audio related problems with the cheapos than with the more expensive. But then again I've burned a hell of a lot more of them too...

I use TDKs. Anything else has not a 100% chance of actually burning properly.

I've been using SmartBuys forever, and they worked 100% on my old burner, but my new, faster one screws up alot. What speed do you burn at? My burner is 52x, the cds are 48x, and I get mistakes sometimes even on 40X [http://forums.massassi.net/html/confused.gif]

Personally, I don't see too much of a difference between the different brands so I pick whatever is the cheapest. Sometimes though I do think their is a small difference in that some brands seem to not burn as successfully as other brands but I'm sure that is just my burner acting stupid (I use Windows XP's burning utility so it could be Microsoft screwing it up again, despite that Roxio made the burning software).

I use Memorex and TDK's, and I burn at 48x (my burner is a 52x). I have yet to make a coaster... But then again at least I'm not using Microsoft's **** built-in burning capabilities. I'd rather use Nero [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Memorex makes the worst CD-RW's I've ever used. I bought a five pack and two went bad in a few months. I use TDK's.

If you use Google you can find a lot of information about good brands. Also check out cdr.org or something like that.

I regularly find CD-Rs free after rebate, so I just use whatever those are.

Well, uhh... obviously... you just... uhh... suck? :P

I use Nero and other CDs would sometimes hang half way through burning or not start at all, with the CD Burner just blinking red. TDKs have worked every single time I've tried 'em.

I use the cheapest and nastiest CD-R's I can find. I bought 2 spindles of 50 for $AUS19.95 each at 'The Warehouse' (a huge $2 shop). I've bought all kinds of unlabeled disks. They've all worked perfectly on my Pioneer DVD combo drive and Nero 5.5

TIPS: Don't use 'on-the-fly' copying. Rip audio cd's to your HD first (and verify them), and only burn audio at the slowest speed your drive works at. Keep an eye on the buffer levels.

I don't generally burn copies of my CDs (though I should, since a whole heap were stolen when my car was broken into last year) but doing this forces the "backup" CD to have mp3 quality instead of CD and loses the "between track" information, so if one track normally glides into another then you'll instead have a two second pause, or whatever.
