Has anyone been getting gmail emails from themselves? I got two in the past couple days that I definitely did not send .. header information shows that they originated from different places, neither of which I recognize

All that's in the emails are several numbers (like three to five) in the topic and body. It's putting me off

A further inspection reveals that in my "Sent mail" folder, I did indeed "send" these messages. Could somebody have gotten into my account?

Your lost mother's dead sister is trying to contact you from the grave under the alias deep coat because 6/1/6 was the real apocalypse because a sex tape found in the second world trade tower showed john paul the 3rd deleting Jesus' son's real father's name from the bottom of the area 51 documents that were hidden on the titanic that the government tried to keep secret from the devil worshipers who are really anti-hopscotch knights of the round table. I'd get decoding that message, if I were you!

Other people seem to have gotten this, too. Sans the part that it's also in their outbox, which is really weird.

It must be an error with gmail.

Nope, has nothing to do with gmail, I got it a few minutes ago and a colleague got it, too "from" an account that doesn't even have a valid login to send mail.
That's perfectly normal spam.
Though, are you sure that you have these mails also in your sent-folders?

I got the 5556 on my Yahoo account. It's just another spam thing, has nothing to do with the host.

I have actually been searching for this for a while today. My boss received one of those today in his work e-mail (an exchange e-mail, hosted in-house) and I've heard reports of a few other people on an exchange server receiving the same e-mails.

We were starting to think it was something on the server or the client machine, but if it's occuring with gmail too then that'd make that much less likely.

I think it's odd I decided to come here as a break from my search, and found this thread immediately.

I was able to check one account with this kind of e-mail, and it isn't showing up in their sent items list.

I haven't had anything hit me. Does anyone who's been affected have non-alphanumeric charaters in your email address?

They're on exchange, and have multiple SMTP addresses, one of their SMTP addresses has a period, but the rest are just [first initial][lastname]@domain.tld.

From our server logs it doesn't look like the spammer is trying random strings. All adresses he used are publically available somewhere.
