Stolen shamelessly from Fatwallet & Gruntville, WD has a customer loyalty program that alows you to buy new drives at very low prices with free shipping & no tax.

Call 1-800-275-4932 option 4 for Loyalty services, then 1 for upgrade program.

How many can I order?
- you need a unique S/N for every drive you want
- you can order as many drives as you want (well within reason) on one phone call as long as you have unique S/Ns for each

Price of drive
- includes shipping
- there are no taxes
- there is no duty. Majority of drives ship from within Canada
- if charged duty WD will reimburse you
- all amounts are in USD

Shipping
- via UPS Ground
- billing and shipping addresses can be different
- the drives are shipped from within Canada, however some have reported that their's came from the US (if you get charged taxes WD will reimburse you)

What drives do they have?
- They have over 30 different models available. the popular ones in this thread are the 400GB SATA, 320GB SATA, and the 36GB Raptor.

WD3200JD SATA 150 MB/s 7200rpm 320gig 8.9 ms 8 MB cache $89
WD2500JD SATA 150 MB/s 7200 250 8.9 ms 8 MB $65
WD3200JB EIDE 100 MB/s 7200 320 8.9 ms 8 MB $97
WD2500JB EIDE 100 MB/s 7200 250 8.9 ms 8 MB $65
WD4000KD SATA 150 MB/s 7200 400 8.9 ms 16 MB $143
WD2500SB EIDE 100 MB/s 7200 250 8.9 ms 8 MB $77
WD360GD SATA 1.5 Gb/s 10,000 36 4.5 ms 8 MB $82

New drive comes with warranty (3 yrs/5 yrs for Raptor's)

How much are they?
- See above
- For other drives simply call them or email them and they will tell you if its available and how much they are.

S/N
- you need a S/N from a WD drive
- you do not need to send in the old drive
- any warrenty on the old drive will be invalidated
- drives w/o any warrenty are valid
- To get the s/n off of a drive in your machine you can use WD's Datalifeguard tools:

When will it end?

- No set date. It's not a sale but an ongoing customer loyalty program. WD can terminate it at any time, however its been in operation for quite a while now.

Pretty damned cool, I know. Now, if you intend to send in your S/N and get a new drive, cool, enjoy it. However, if you have a drive lying around with an expired warranty and you already have enough hard drives, I ask you to send me the S/N. I'm building a NAS and need five 360 GB HDDs, and have four WD drives whose serials I can send in, so I need one more. You can either PM me the serial, or email it to mykytiuk [AT-SYMBOL] gmail [PERIOD] com. If I receive more than one serial, I'll let whoever sends me extra know that I don't need it anymore. If they decide they still don't want it, I'll compile a list of extra serials I have and give them out (while informing the original owner that the serial has been used) as I receive requests on a first come, first served basis.

Thanks, and enjoy.

Oh damn this is awesome.

Too bad I can't fit any more drives in my computer, or I'd be all over this.

I've got a WD. Pity I'm a McBrit.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

Is this a drive for drive thing? Like if I call them and give them the SN of my 160gb SATA is that the only thing I can get the discount on? Or does it apply to any drive?

Luckily I don't have any WD HDs. Otherwise I would need to share FG's sentimentality.

You don't have to send them your old drive, you get to keep it. Only downside is if it's still under warranty it won't be anymore.

No, you can get any drive you want, that's the beauty. I've got serials from drives ranging from 40 GB to 160 GB, and I'm getting all 360 GB drives.

Not to be skeptical (i just cant help it) is there somewhere that says this is official? It just sounds too good to be true.

Only thing I've found was this, but it's convincing enough for me:

What is the age limit of the drive? Does it even matter? In that case... I literally have a hundred drives at my disposal here at work. We have tons and tons of old ~10gb WD drives sitting in the store room that are never used/going to be used.

All the HDDs I had that were WD crap out on me way too fast (they died within 2 years time). My current drive is a Matrox which I had for about 3 years and surprisingly it hasn't died yet! Because of that, I'm staying away from WD like the plague.

Oh and...

They're pretty good deals but newegg is another alternative if you don't have spare SNs as they have similar (if not better) prices. On the one quoted, even after shipping from newegg, you save $43.

I've got a crappy samsung hd and it's been going strong for almost 4 years. The durability of this thing is huge, especially considering the fact that it is laying next to the case of the computer on my apartment's floor.

Looks like you save 150 gigs too...
2006-06-07, 4:55 PM #21
Didn't notice that. I C&Ped the serial number from the WD list onto Newegg's search. I suppose 150 gigs would explain the $43 difference. :o Sorry about that.
