Signatures or Quick Reply?
2006-06-07, 8:31 PM #1
I hate signatures. They're ugly and dumb. But I love quick reply! I find it handy and enjoyable.

Which would you rather have?

Much like an american congressman, I will attach my objectionable proposal to my favorable proposal, and see whether the overall proposal passes. This poll really will decide the short term future of these two options.

There's an option to turn off sigs. Use it, and don't ruin it for people who like sigs.

Dude, why can't we just have both?

I think you should give up with trying to change the forums.
2006-06-07, 8:36 PM #6
Quick reply makes it easier for people to make fast, useless posts with minimal effort :p
2006-06-07, 8:37 PM #7
You should also change your name back. This new one sucks.

Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

Signatures are useless. They take up space and many people have annoying colored ones. Quick Reply takes just as much time as regular reply. Kill them both.
Think while it's still legal.

Quick reply is cool.
I coudl care less about sigs.

And why should he quit trying to change the forums? Can't have improvements without change.

-Nah, quick reply takes less time, because it saves loading up a new window.

Screw the forums, fix the stats.
But turn sigs on first.

What's with having to click a button on one of the posts to quick reply?
Can you make it so you can just enter the text without having to click?

I mean, it's not like theres a huge effort involved in clicking near someones post, it just seems un-neccassary

I've said it many times lately: If you take away sigs and add qui replies you become like this website:
01110111 01110111 01110111 00101110 00110100 01100011 01101000 01100001 01101110 00101110 01100011 01101111 01101101
If I actually make the link to it I'll be banned in a heartbeat. Homicide inspired me.

-Don't be like the website I posted in binary. Give us sigs and take away our quick reply. Or keep QR but disable the thing where it makes you click a post first, I hate that and it defeats the purpose.
2006-06-07, 8:58 PM #16
Wait.. what's preventing you from having both?
2006-06-07, 9:01 PM #17
I don't see why we have to choose bewteen the two. Leave it as it currently is, i.e. all optional.
2006-06-07, 9:02 PM #18
The people demand options.
COUCHMAN IS BACK BABY
2006-06-07, 9:03 PM #19
You people suck and your sigs suck.
2006-06-07, 9:08 PM #20
Basically it's like this
"I hate sigs, so I want to take them away, but here.. have quick reply as a consolation"

I don't see what the big deal is, the forums look better without sigs I reckon. The conversations read easier because they aren't broken up by pointless, over-repeated lines of text.

Ohhh... pointless and over-repeated, THAT'S why massassians are so attached ;p

Oh sod it all.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

So what's to stop admins from enabling avatars then? It's a slippery slope, where do we draw the line?
2006-06-07, 9:12 PM #23
Because everyone doesn't want avatars but they want sigs... O_o

Because avatars slow the site down and sigs don't?

Also, Brad needs to stop playing with the poll.
2006-06-07, 9:23 PM #25
Why not "Sigs enabled, Quick Reply enabled" in the poll? I bet it would win overwhelmingly.

Why do I need to click an icon before I can type in Quick Reply? That just makes it slower.

2006-06-07, 10:10 PM #27
both sigs and quick reply will now be on until the poll ends. the poll cant be changed as its a public poll, so there is a record.

what is this "quick reply?" this is a test
Laughing at my spelling herts my feelings. Well laughing is fine actully, but posting about it is not.

Quick reply feature seems useless. I guess it saves mere seconds.

But does it really? When I want to read the last post in a long thread, I just scroll all the way down. Now I have to scroll a little bit up to read that post. My precious 2 seconds.

Your scrolling rainbow name background colouring is 1000% more annoying and ugly than any (legit) signature I've seen here. If you really wanted to make things more pleasing, you would have started from over there.

So...why are some of you ignoring that you can disable sigs in your own personal options even after it's been mentioned?

That, and same for avatars.

Oh, and quick reply sucks because it screws up the threaded views.

It saves a hell of a lot more then that for us people with sucky connections. Having to load that extra page can waste a fair amount of time (on particularly bad days, quite a long time)

incorrect, thats why you have to click an icon before quick reply will work. for the sake of the never used threaded view.

I'd rather have signatures than a quick reply feature, that isn't quick.

Good thing the quick reply thing is quick then eh?

It would be quicker, if I didn't have to click on a post to reply.

Then abolish the never-used threaded view and let us quickreply without clicking to activate it.. :D
