ICQ used to be great, now it sucks. I would dump it if I didn't have a lot of contacts on it. I'm having spam issues, I get the usual crap from random bots; incest porn, penis enlargement, cheap pirated software offers, etc. I have Gaim set to ignore everything from people not on my contact list, and I still get crap. Using Miranda, I had two anti-spam plugins designed to do the same thing, and neither worked.

What gives?

I hardly ever get ICQ spam. I've even tried to get it, but nothing worked. How recently did you get your number? I think ad companies target many numbers of those who have recently signed up for icq.

Yeah, I've kept my same old number over the years and never had problems.

I get a lot of crap in Online mode, but none whatsoever when Invisible. So just put everyone you ever talk to on your visible list, and never go out of Invisible mode.

I got my number about five or six years ago, it's an eight digit number. I only started getting spam in the last four or five months. I do nothing to initate it, it's just bots sending out random crap.

I'll try invisible mode.

Ah, my friend was telling me sometimes bots use user information to search for people to dick with. So I set all my stuff to blank. Somehow my occupation was "ICQ - Providing Help"...
