I could spend $10 on a forum account and face more mindlessness than 4chan (which is free and probably more interesting) or I could just pick up a dimebag and not have to deal with any mental stigma.

Although you'll find that the forces behind 4chan are from SA anyway, along with a significent portion of the posters. SA isn't actually that mindless, and due to the huge number of members, a lot of the "share your story" threads, and photoshop threads are excellent reads- along with random incidents reported from peoples lives.

Of course, the :10bux: is also a useful tool, keeping out people who generally wouldn't have access to a credit card, and thus (on average) increasing the standard of posting. It also makes a nice "deposit" against idiocy, trolling and spammers- people are less likely to do stupid things if it's going to cost them money.

True, but there's so much variety on the SA forums (which actually have a rather different feeling than the front page) that you're more than likely to find something funny or interesting. I don't personally think that every thread there is hilarious (and there are a lot of posters who are annoying), but the forums can certainly grab my attention for longer than massassi's... :P
