Who's the worst Sci-fi/Fantasy hero?
2006-06-12, 12:09 AM #1
I was thinking about this the other day. On this other forum I visit, we were discussing the biggest, baddest evilest guys in existence, and someone brought up Ender Wiggin. After some discussion, I submittd Paul Atreidies.
So who's the worst?
I vote Paul with Anakin in close second, followed by Ender then VMS.
My "Other" would be Rincewind and Jack O'Neil (note the one-L, the other one has a sense of humor and isn't that bad a guy).
I was thinking about it, and Vegeta, he's not such a good fellow either.

-Whot about you?

How about The Guyver from that movie "The Guyver"?

I like Paul and Ender (Chani was hot in that movie! The new one.)

Leto sucked though.

He just goes around bashing people's heads in with a crowbar.

It just occured to me that Luke skywalker ain't such a nice guy. A redneck incest wannabe who kills hundreds of thousands of people in an act of terrorism and cuts his father's hand off...

-And while we're at it, Thomas Anderson could be seen as having sold out his species, as being a terrorist, as being a cold-blooded killer, etc.

I haven't read Stranger or Ender's Game, but none of those heroes (except for Vegeta, but it's not like I'm ever going to watch Dragonball) really have grey areas. They're all essentially good (besides Anakin who we knew was going to turn evil anyways).

Like, you're really reaching for stuff here.

Emperor Paul Muad'dib Atreides I: The short and dirty version.
An upper crust ******* (literally) who indulged in whores for a long time before his family stumbled into the biggest wealth in the universe, which he also indulged in. A religious fanatic drug dealer who cheats on his wife, has incestuous overtones with his mother and sister, and killed 60 billion people just to prove that he was popular. His people tried to overthrow him ( a few times), he stole the throne and daughter of the previous emperor, and he totally used his son (twice) because he couldn't go through with what needed to be done.

-Also I hate his haircut.

Really?
You don't remember the great jihad? The whole "PaulxAlia" situation in Messiah? The spice, the fremen, the fact that his wife, Irulan, was forced to seek what comfort she could in her writings? His whole "baby's momma's other baby" deal in the desert in Dune? The Stone Burner? The Golden Path? Leto's whole... thing?

-And if it's about the haircut... I'll admit, Kyle Mclaughlacalinan (I've never correctly pronounced that name, and I used to have a teacher named that) has a somewhat nifty 80's hairdo, which I unfortunately find myself wearing at this very moment, but I never dug the new guy's spiky die job. He looks like a fratboy.

I read Dune pretty regularly. I've read Messiah and Children once, so I'm sort of foggy.

Most of Paul being mean/bad came from him fulfilling his destiny, not a decision to be evil (he spends most of the first book trying to figure out how to avoid the jihad until he realizes that it can't be stopped).

What's so bad about that?

The other stuff I don't really remember (I recall Alia being naked but not her and Paul doin' it...that didn't happen, did it?).

apart from the haircut, this makes him cool.

my vote for worst sci-fi/fantasy hero goes to most the main players in Lord of the Rings.

Seriously, most of them don't have a malicious bone in their bodies, their characters are flat and hippy.

Um...how is Rincewind a bad hero? He's just a coward. He doesn't even want to be involved, most of the time =/

Heck yeah, George Lucas told me after watching those he dumped the prequel trilogy movies and stated that those cartoons minus the padme episodes were official canon.

Isn't Leto II Atriedes a bit worse than his father? I mean, he did try to become the worst tyrant in human history, and I think he succeded during those 3000 years of worm-ness.

A major coward. And, in his own words, he's really a heel.

-Would you want Rincewind crusading for you?

The way I see it the more destruction they bring about the better a hero they are.

I'm trying to say that he isn't a hero at all. Maybe I'm just being picky (I like Rincewind), but I don't think it's fair :P He's just a...a...protagonist.

Well, Rincewind did take on a sourceror armed with only a half-brick in a sock.

But yeah. He's not normally someone you'd class as a hero. Not willingly, anyway.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

That's true.
