The Skateboarding Thread

So yeah. I picked up a new Girl deck earlier today, along with trucks and wheels, and managed to put it together and it is freaking awesome. I put my board together and took it for a ride. Lets put it this way, riding it is like having pure joy go through you, especially after you haven't had a good board for almost two weeks. It did take some getting used too, but I like it.

So yeah, this is Massassi's skateboard thread, and I'm pretty sure that there are a few of us out there that skate besides me.

Oh man! I just found out there's a skatepark right near where I'm staying for the summer! SCORE. The transition all sucks, but at least there is transition. Sooooo much fun. Now I just have to find a pool.

I'm riding an Element right now. I chose it purely on how it felt, and I love it. It feels so nice to ride. The tail is just the right size and it's just the right width for me. (I think it's a 7'9") I do need new bearings though. I had some Zeros, but now they're dirty beyond repair.

Are you still in India?

I used to skateboard, I could do a heelflip, and boardslide, noseslide , 50-50, and 5-0 grind, but i haven't skateboarded in over a year -- so I'm horrible now! Oh by the way, NEVER buy a Shorty's deck, they're fricken heavy as hell!

Never been great at skating. Inlining, though..

I've been skating for over 5 years, and it's probably the only thing I'm somewhat good at. Right now, I'm rocking a local skate shop deck, Ventures, Spitfire wheels, and Bone Swiss bearings. I might get a job teaching little kids how to skate at our local skate park this summer, so that's cool. I was just at the skatepark yesterday, and now I'm dealing with some wretched sunburn. Ugh.

Girl boards rule. Good stuff.

Nope. I'm Stateside for the summer. I wish I had a skatepark in India. We've got two spots, one of which is actually pretty awesome, and the other of which is easy to get to. Next year's going to suck because almost all my skater friends have either stopped skating or moved away.

Skateparks are awesome.

Quick question for everybody, are you Goofy or Regular?

Goofy right here, it just feels better then regular.
2006-06-14, 6:13 PM #15
I was never good at skating or skateboarding.
2006-06-14, 6:15 PM #16
I'm goofy when I snowboard. No skateboarding, though. Ew.

Regular, for snowboarding and skateboarding. I only use MiniLogo decks. It's the cheapest, and it's good quality. Except I have to go shopping. My laces on my shoes are all ripped apart from flipping, and my deck is de-plying and chipping off. Maybe this time I'll try a new brand, I don't know.

I started learning heelflips first, and those are way harder than kickflips. Once I had heelflips down, I learned kickflips in an evening. I have a skatepark a few blocks down from me, and I have a little concrete pad beside my house where I set up some boxes 'n stuff. I'll be getting a new video camera this week as well, so I can get some footage of myself.

Who has a webcam and MSN. We can play a game of skate (or horse, whatever you call it) with some flatland tricks. Gimme a PM if you're interested  I used to play with my friend online down the road a few times using webcam, it's pretty neat.

And, just a question, what was the most recent trick anyone here has learned? I figured out how to 360 boneless a few weeks ago, and 180 disaster on the quarter pipe at the park.
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

I have some of those sweet shoes that have rollerblades on the heels. Does that count?

You actually win, because I want a pair of those pretty badly, lol.

I skated from 5th grade all the way through high school, and even some after I got out of the AF in 2000. I was pretty good at street, never did much other than launch ramps, mini-ramps, rails, etc., like, I didn't do vert ramps, pools, etc. I had a lot of fun, it was something to do other than drugs, and the only thing I didn't like about it was getting hassled by the cops. My first "real" deck was an H-Street, they're not even in business anymore :(

I actually have a somewhat interesting story about something like this but not with the cops, It was back when I started skating sometime in september of 2005.
I was riding down the street towards my house on the way home from the park, and there was a mom and what looked like to be her young daughter, probably no older then 5.

Anyways, i'm riding along, and all of a sudden I hear this high pitched voice say

"LOOK MOMMY! LOOK AT THE LITTLE PUNK!"

I just burst out laughing right there, and then I hear the mom say something along the lines of "Don't talk to him, he's probably high on weed."

Ahhh, social stigma, how I love thee. :v:

I don't know what crazy moon country you live in Schming, but around here in Colorado, skating gets you all the chicks, even if all you can do is Ollie.

Same here! But then you get all kinds of people who do just that...Ollies all day and don't even try anything else. They just skate to look cool.

And I landed a fakie heelflip tonight :D (It actually wasn't very hard since I can fakie olly pretty high anyways, it was basically the same thing as going regular. I was suprised by how easy it was :o )

I had a really cool Black Magic deck but I never did get any good at skateboarding. I did hit a crack in the sidewalk and bashed my head pretty hard. That was fun.
<Lyme> I got Fight Club for 6.98 at walmart.

I maintain that learning how to ollie is the hardest thing trick to learn.

I used to be really into computer games and editing JK, but skateboarding kind of distracted me from all that..... But I still lurk on here a lot so I thought I would share some footage of me if anyone is interested.....

For some reason, I've never really bothered to learn a flip trick. I got pretty close having pop shove-its down, but I just lose interest. I can kind of do boardslides. Really I'm just content riding around and ollieing. I'm just not that into street. I really need to find a pool. Really. I just want to be Brent Atchley.

Oh, I can do fastplants. Those are fun as hell.

I haven't been on a skateboard since 1996ish. I quit skating seriously when I was in 8th grade (1993ish?). The last board that I had was a New Deal / Tommy Guerrero / Sun T. It was awesome, I broke it doing what I believe back then would have been called a 360 kick-flip varial (basically a kick-flip that spins around 360 degrees). End of story.

Now that I've been getting in to photography, I think I may visit our skatepark here in Louisville, KY and start getting some decent action shots.
2006-06-15, 6:01 PM #35
Post 'em up when you get some done. I'd like to see them.

Dude. A 360-flip?

In other news, I just found a really nice bank in a parking lot. Great fun doing some old school turns on it.

Dude, Deluxe. Hello.

I've been skating a lot recently. I refuse to film, though. Filming yourself skating unless you are really great seems pretty lame.

Not to say your film was lame. I liked it. Which parts of that were you?
2006-06-15, 10:02 PM #38
The whole thing, dummy.
2006-06-15, 10:23 PM #39
aye. skate. i used to do alot of bmx tricks as a kid. then i started to value my hands and wrists and quit.

now i do tricks on strings. seems to be more fun.

I don't know. It's kind of fun to film you and your friends just for the hell of it. It is a dumb idea to put crappy videos on the internet though.
