what exactly does this mean to someone who knows nothing about SWG but was once interested in playing it?

I means nothing if you've never played the game. If you were ever interested in playing the game, now is the time I'd suggest to get a subscription. They're reworking the game from the ground up and it's my opinion that the game more closely resembles what the community originally wanted 3+ years ago.

However, if you fell in love with the game in the beginning and enjoyed it up until just before they released the Combat Upgrade (CU), then this might be something you're very interested in. People were screaming for a Pre-CU server, and well, this group is working on reverse engineering SWG data to operate a server that runs on the pre-CU game (around Publish 12).

Smells quite illegal, but I'm intrigued. I didn't mind the CU... some bits I preferred, like the new buff system. But I digress.
Hey, Blue? I'm loving the things you do. From the very first time, the fight you fight for will always be mine.

SWG's was the definition of a SWEET game.

I do miss the ol' girl.

Code:
if(getThingFlags(source) & 0x8){
  do her}
elseif(getThingFlags(source) & 0x4){
  do other babe}
else{
  do a dude}

SWG was ok. I played a demo of the NGE, and I can see why some didn't like the change from the career system to the class system. The old system, by the sound of it, was way better. Plus, I like the way the Jedi quests sounded, like it was a major thing you had to put some effort into, not just selecting it when you begin. However, from the sound of it, combat sucked.

-The NGE's only really good for combat. Shooting's fun.
