Cracking joints
2006-06-17, 11:09 AM #1
I crack my fingers by pulling them back. I do it many times every day. Some people are annoyed by it and say it causes loose joints or something.

Do you crack your joints, do you find it annoying, and does it really cause some health problems? (Even if it does I'm not going to stop doing it.)
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I crack everything. My toes, my fingers, my back, my arms. So far, I've yet to feel anything bad from doing it. And most people at school I do it around do not get annoyed with it.

I crack my neck, back, fingers, toes and wrists. I have yet to have any real problems from it except for not feeling comfortable until I crack said parts.

I guess I would if they would let any sounds.

I can get some cracks out when I bend my knees, though.

I don't very often, although my ankles crack a lot in the morning. Apparently, if joints crack in the range of natural motion of the joint, it's not bad for you, but if it's not in the range of natural motion, it can lead to arthritis down the line because it wears on the cartelidge in an abnormal way.

I can crack all the knuckles in my hands simultaneously in that "getting ready for a fight" way.

Although lately my jaw has this habit of cracking and nearly killing me.

The actual cracking is air pockets being released around the joint. Doesn't do any damage, as it's natural and the air eventually settles back again. I crack my fingers a few times a day, and I crack my neck a lot. Sometimes I'll do my elbow or knees if they're feeling sore.

I crack some of my fingers rarely, but not by pulling them back. I do it by pushing them toward my palm. Also, for some strange reason, I can crack my right wrist (which I broke when I was 9) but I can never crack my left wrist, which is normal. I can crack my right wrist as many times as I want. I could do it 200 times in a row if I wanted to, which leads me to believe this particular crackage doesn't have anything to do with air pockets.

I crack my fingers and wrists regularly, and on purpose. Especially during a lot of writing (such as exams at the moment). My neck occasionally, if it's tense. My elbows, knees and ankles all crack during movement, but not as much as they used to. About a year ago, they were really bad for cracking.

Cracking your joints, according to the orthepedic surgeon I talked with the other day, doesn't cause arthritis or anything else that they know of.

I can crack most of my fingers 3 or 4 different ways. Weee

I crack my fingers about 20 times a day, either in Free's way on Krok's. It probably can't be good for me.

I can crack my thumbs, back, neck, knees and ankles too though. Oh, and my shoulders.
nope.

I thought there was some kind of study that said cracking your joints helps reduce the risk of arthritis.

Thumbs and neck.

I can crack all joints in my fingers, thumbs, wrists, elbows, shoulders, toes, ankles, knees, and right hip joint. Also, neck and back in various ways/places, and sternum. I originally thought the sternum cracking was tied up with my slight scoliosis in some way and may be worrisome, but my GP said lots of people can do it.

So yeah, I'm all kindsa crackly.

None of my joints crack, however when stretching my arms when I wake up, as they go back, I often get a loud crack from my chest. I'm pretty sure it's from my sternum by the way it feels but I only developed this in the last two years or so. It's surprisingly loud.

If there is, I've never seen it. Who knows though.

I don't really except that occasionally I'll lean backwards over my chair to crack my back when it's hurting, and every once in a while a joint will crack just while I'm going about my business.

And other people cracking thier joints only bothers me when they insist that they crack every single one of their fingers, thier wrists, their arms, and thier necks all in a row. it just becomes this never ending cackling noise that ends up getting on my nerves - usually when I'm already annoyed.

When I crack my neck, people cringe. Nothing like a string of seven or eight loud, resounding pops to wake a person up in the morning.

I couldn't ever crack my neck like some people (and most chiropractors) do, by twisting their head sharply in one direction.

I'm always afraid they're just gonna snap their neck. :/

My shoulders used to crack when I did hindu pushups, and they still crack sometimes when I do incline bench presses. My neck's started doing it too. What is happening to me?!

I crack my fingers, elbows, neck, back, and ankles a lot, and it actually feels good. Nothing bad has come of it so far, except maybe very slightly bigger knuckles. And I play guitar a lot, so I'd definetely notice any stiffness of the fingers. I found that cracking ones neck quickly sounds real threatening and can scare the hell out of most people. :)
DO NOT WANT.

I could never crack my neck until this dude kicked me in the head last year.

Now it cracks five times to the right, three times to the left, once twisting to the right, and once twisting to the left.

Cracking your knuckles doesn't release air, it releases nitrogen gas which is produced naturally as a result of your joints sliding together. Cracking your knuckles has no effects, beneficial or otherwise, although cracking your knuckles too roughly might cause minor soft tissue damage.

Most of the joints in my body can be cracked and I do, in fact, crack them.

I can crack my right knee just by moving it extended to bent.. when I kneel down or I'm doing something that puts stress on my right knee I can hardly stand up.. I'd be a horrible baseball catcher.
