Killer Insect..!

It's no killer insect, at least I don't think (no stinger that I could see), but neither my girlfriend or myself have ever seen this insect. Anyone know what it is? I hang out in gardens quite a bit in our area and have never seen anything like it.

Nope, that's just the rod that holds the flower pot up.

Now there's something I've ever seen... interesting. And thanks for sharing. Speaking of which, just wait until you see a bunch of [Sphinx? Springfield?] Hawk Moths. (Can't remember the exact name off the top of my head.) Those things are just... holy crap. I'd never seen them in my life and suddenly there were seven or eight of them buzzing around in one of our lilac bushes one night. They were like hummingbirds. Damndest thing I'd ever seen at the time.

Meh, now that the purpose of the thread is over I can't tell you to eat it, because you will never visit this thread again. :(

If it had been a British species I would probably have done the same thing. I've got a few books on identifying wildlife I use.

That bug is soooo cool. If you eat it you will obtain its coolness.

A fine example of mimicry. It wants you to think it is a wasp or bee so that you don't eat it.
