Alright, I decided to get back into editing JK levels again. But when I try to install it, I get the launcher, but setup is always never responding. Here are my details. I have windows xp pro, disk 1 cracked and broke a few years back, so I copied a friend of mine's onto a disk. I used to be able to install it with the burned disk, that was on windows 98. Is there some way to install it or some way to make the setup respond?

If your having a problem accessing the setup, its easy. right click on the desk and go to explore CD.

Then find the setup file.

Now, maybe your saying that the setup program locks up, if thats the case. I don't know. Sorry.

Good luck. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Tried exploring the disk and doing setup manually, still didn't respond. Any other ideas?

The winxp cd is tricky. Most people think that the setup.exe in the root directory is the xp instaler, but the real setup file is located in the I386 folder and is called winnt.exe.

I'm trying to install JK, not windows xp. The JK Setup is what never responds.

Right click on setup.exe->Properties->Compatability (tab); Mess around with options in there.

Drag the folders to the desktop and try installing from there. If that doesn't work, you can just drag the GameData into a new folder, and move everything from the EXE folder inside Gamedata to the main directory outside gamedata. Then just run JK.exe

Maybe using the command promt to install it would work, it worked for me with C&C: RA on XP.

I tried dragging and installing from the desktop, that didn't work. So I tried the other thing. It says that I'm missing a file, but the name is just a bunch of squares. There were only 2 files inside the EXE folder, JK.exe and Smackw32.dll. I have no idea where to go.

Okay, I can try the command prompt, but I don't have much experience with it. So what would I need to type? d:install or something?

I really don't see how that's a problem. We both paid for our own copies of the game. Lucas Arts got the money. I'm not selling it to anyone else or spreading it on the internet. It'd be the same as making a backup disk if I had copied my own, but I didn't expect mine to break.

Open the command prompt, type D: press enter, then type SETUP.EXE

I think that's how it's done.

Oh I told you my directions wrong...

Open the GameData folder on the CD.

Make a new folder on your Hard drive.
Copy the contents of the EXE folder into the new folder you made on your hard drive. (Don't copy THE FOLDER, copy the contents, in other words, take it out of the EXE folder)

Now, Copy the folders and all their contents into that new directory.

So it should look like this:

C:\JK\CONTROLS
C:\JK\EPISODE
C:\JK\MININSTALL
C:\JK\RESOURCE
C:\JK\JK.exe

NOW, take the RES1HI.GOB out of the MININSTALL folder and move it to the RESOURCE folder. Delete the MININSTALL folder.

Run JK.exe. Bam, you got a working install. Multiplayer won't work until you get the registry entries from someone, but otherwise, your good to go.

I'm thinking of starting a small page to host JK editing tools on a quick and managable site. Massassi and Code Alliance seem to always have trouble with the files section.
