I had something like that once and I accidentally opened it. Then it linked every word on internet explorer to a dictionary defintion site.

Amazing what you'll find in your starup if you leave it for a few years. I set my starup folder to be unwritable so nasty programs can't add files to it.

A woman brought her home computer into work yesterday. She was complaining that it was "shutting down every time she tried to go online"... Ok, fine, its got Sasser, I thought... Yes, that, and about 20 other viruses. Also, it had more than 700 various bits of spyware and adware running on startup. It was a mess. Every 2 or 3 seconds another popup would appear......


The saddest thing is, Ive seen *much* worse on this job.

There's an outstanding site which lists all the processes that are normal for windows to be running, and what they are. I can't remember where it is though
