OK. Might as well start from the beginning. And yes. Ranting shall ensue, and if you don't care or are going to crap on this thread, **** you.

Long time ago, 13 years infact, I was born. Born unto an unlucky family, actually. Buercklins (OMG NAME) never EVER have good luck.

We've had COUNTLESS times when incorrect screws were sent with a cabinet and they didn't fit. We've had no screws sent at all. We've had INSTRUCTIONS THAT WERE INCORRECT (I was pissed. It was a birthday lego thing.).

We put up a trampoline right as summer started. We spent an hour and a half, following instructions only to find that:

A. They gave ****ty instructions that ended up being so vague, we had to restart.
B. We couldn't get the pieces together at the final one, and then we couldn't get them apart.

We spent a grand total of 3 hours on a "1 hours project! Easy to assemble!"

Now, for current events.

October, 2005. Zloc decides he wants a 360, and starts saving. This develops into a computer fund.

June 29, 2006. Zloc orders new computer. It's shipped out the next day using 3 day UPS GUARANTEED shipping.

3 business days pass. Everything shows up, except for the harddrive. Oh, and did I mention it showed up at 7:30? That's 3 1/2 hours late, but I can't really be mad. It got here on the right day, didn't it? Ah well. But wait, like I said. HDD is MISSING. Not delivered. It's LATE. I want to know wtf is up with that.

And last night, I had the CPU/DVD Drive/2 other things. I had a huge scare that I needed Arctic Silver or the like for my CPU, and I didn't see ANYTHING included. I was afraid I'd have to order it online and wait another 5 days (weekend) for it to show up. But, I got lucky, found the stuff locally (why wasn't it on their website? HUH? HUH!?) and found the stuff already on the heatsink as well.

God I'm pissed off right now. Here's the point of the thread.

I start putting the thing together, thinking when the HDD shows up I'll just slap it in there and be good to go in about 5 minutes. I got the mobo in with some help from my dad for the screws. I get it in, look at the back of the case. The ports and stuff (USB, sound connectors and stuff) don't line up. I look at the replacement face thing that came with the mobo, same thing. THEY SENT THE WRONG GOD DAMNED PIECE WITH MY MOTHERBOARD, AND I CAN'T PUT MY COMPUTER TOGETHER BECAUSE OF IT. I'm furious at this. ASUS ****ed up, not me, and their problem is keeping me from putting this together.

Oh. And I tried tracking the HDD. I have no idea what's going on. It just seems to have stopped at MO, and hasn't moved since monday.

Tomorrow I'm going into town, to the computer place. I'm taking a picture of my mobo's ports and stuff, and telling them I need something that'll fit that. If they have nothing, I'm *****ing to ASUS and I'm going to see if they'll send me a replacement.

I swear. Every God damn major corporation on the face of the earth HATES my family. We NEVER are able to do something correctly because something NEVER goes right if it involves fitting stuff together. NEVER.

GAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH.

Sorry about the rant...I'm just really, really, REALLY, pissed off right now, and just needed somewhere to vent.

*sigh*

Suggestions on what to do, please.

Wait for the right stuff, I guess? It's not a time-sensitive issue, is it? I wouldn't exactly call it unlucky, anyway, and it took me about four months for me to get all the proper parts for a working turntable setup, and it's still not done yet. :\
2006-07-05, 7:20 PM #3
...

1) Don't hold this against Asus. Yeah, they ****ed up, it sucks, but they're definitely one of the better motherboard companies out there.
2) Newegg's shipping is never guaranteed. 3 Business days (you forget, yesterday was July 4th) is what they say it will take, and it usually does take that, or one day more. They got your **** there one day EARLY, and your hdd is on time.
3) Chill out. This is all minor bull****, and you're only mad because you're impatient.

1. I'm not going to boycott ASUS. From everythign I had reccomended in my 2 computer threads, I could gather ASUS was a good company. I'm just miffed that something like that happened.
2. No. I did not forget yesterday was foruth of July. I order last Thursday, ships out, Friday, still moving on Monday, and today is 3 days. But meh. I'll just wait it out I guess. I couldn't have used it anyway if the HDD had come because of this case part.
3. Blah. I've been patient for 9 months, I just want it over. But you are right, and I know that.

Friday doesn't necessarily count because it's the day it went out. It could have gone out and 5:00 pm for all you know. Tomorrow is really the third day.

Well, I just went and checked the tracking status of it.

On the fourth (yesterday) a scan at some city in Missouri was logged, but that was it. Nothing was logged on the tracking site today, like it's just sitting there in MO. Wouldn't it have atleast moved today atleast? I find that it's really hard to believe they forgot to log something, that seems very unlikely. And up at the top, it says "In Transit - Rescheduled" but the other ones were "In Transit - On Time"

When ever I get stuff that's shipped UPS, it sits at a distribution center in San Pablo for a day before it gets sorted out to the local wharehouse where it gets loaded for delivery. It'll get there.
Pissed Off?
2006-07-05, 8:27 PM #9
So can I assume (using this way of thinking) it gets shipped to the local place tomorrow, and then Friday is sent out to my house? That'd be pretty cool, I'd just prefer not to wait until next week is all. But if I must...

Oh well. If I have to wait that long, I have to wait.

... Uh.... You NEED the port cover thingie for the mother board? I mean, my case had one on it, plus an alternate that came with the board. If neither works.... Do you really need it THAT badly? Just pull the damn thing out and don't use it. Find a nifty way to cover it up with like, a dryer sheet or something to keep dust out if that's a concern.

*shrug* My 2 cents.

And tracking times... always take those with a very LARGE grain of salt. My case arrived from NewEgg a day earlier than all the other parts, which astonishingly enough, arrived right on time. But when I ordered a flat panel from them later on, it was exactly 24 hours later than FedEx's ETA. And speaking of ETAs..... It's an ESTIMATED Time of Arrival for a reason you know. =P

Alright, Zell, thanks but I'd have preferred you didn't say that.

If he wanted to do that, good for him. I've had an unnamed Massassian just IM me doing pretty much the same thing. I honestly don't care, I was ranting and he's entitled to his opinion and allowed to call me a whiney *******.

Yeah, you need it. Unless you don't like having air circulate in your case, which kinda cools your processors. We're talking about the entire BACK, not just a piece or two.

Alright..I'll get a picture of what we're talking about. I've obviously not given a good enough definition for you guys.

It's the little metal piece where all the stuff that is ON the motherboard comes out the back of the case and allows me to plug stuff in.

On the left side, you have where the keyboard/mouse cords would plug in, then next to that ethernet/USB.

2006-07-05, 9:39 PM #17
Still a rather large piece missing. You'll want it otherwise not only could airflow be interrupted but the pieces on the motherboard will have no support for whatever weighs down on them, connector-wise.

Yes. I just did a quick check over newegg, but couldn't decide what it would be called.

And if I were to email ASUS (If the computer place in town doesn't have something that I need. They're nice guys, and would probably understand) should I just tell them that a replacement piece they sent for my motherboard *Give model* to make it fit with the back of my case is the incorrect piece and I would like another?

you could just pop off the little metal sheet covering the ports and do without the crappy cover?

Put it in without the faceplate. Yoshi is dramatically overreacting about it. Sure it may "throw off the cooling" a slight bit, but it's not going to increase the temperature inside your case by 10 degrees or anything stupid like that.

The reason its really there isn't for air flow (there's vents in back too, so this wouldn't make much difference as far as airflow), its dust. But if you'll be getting a replacement in a month or less anyway, there is absolutely no harm that'll come to it just because you didn't put the plate in.
2006-07-05, 10:43 PM #31
My cooling got off by 5 degrees (c) when I took off my front faceplate (one of the ones that stands in for a 5.25" drive). You'd be surprised what can impact the cooling, and how little it takes.

However, as long as you are getting the replacement, it'll be fine to use without it. It's not going to melt your PC. I just realized I sounded like I was saying "OMG NEED THAT BACK END TO RUN PC", but I was just trying to say don't run it for extended periods of time without.

I never had a computer without a faceplate, however I don't think it should make much difference in temperature, since most of the things on the input devices are up a nice sum of the space that covers it.

Unless you have some kind of special cooling air flow system? Like an Antec case?
2006-07-05, 10:48 PM #33
OK. I MAY do that. But, I'd have to disassemble the entire computer to fit that new piece on the back, wouldn't I? And that would mess with the stuff on the back end it would be touching/catching/holding when I put it it if I didn't take everything out to put it in.

Did that even make sense?

And you guys do realize the piece I'm talking about, don't you? It's on the back, not front.

When you build computers, you're almost always going to have to go back in and rearrange everything.

Especially on your first build.

I was surprised myself, to be honest, when I saw the difference. I figure a back-end will probably affect it moreso.

And I can't make heads nor tails from what you're saying Zloc.

Ok, 2 pictures in low quality. First shows the piece I had earlier next to the place it would go on the back of my PC with USB cords plugged in. Sorry for low light, but that's best I can do. I hope you can make it out. Second picture is a better picture of all the little ports and stuff.

Faceplate, yes. You won't have to reassemble everything, just move the mobo a little away from the place and place it in.
2006-07-05, 11:01 PM #38
OK. I like that. But I'd have to disconnect all the stuff that's directly connected the the mobo (video card is all I can think of right now) and then move it back, wouldn't I?

Unless you screwed the video card into the case, no, you can leave that too. Just a tip though: Removing things makes it easier to put in the faceplate.

I don't know how big your case is to your mobo, so it's hard to tell
2006-07-05, 11:08 PM #40
So then this thing's a faceplate eh? Well then...if the place in town has no faceplate, I'll just slap my rig together, throw in the HDD when it shows up, and go until I get a replacement from ASUS. There's nothing on the faceplate that's required use, is there? I mean, I'll use the keyboard/mouse ports, and a USB port, but those are both through wires and won't put any weight on the ports will they? Same with the little sound holes/ports as well.
