What is the color of the night?

Sanguine, my brother.

So I have been having a lot of fun with Oblivion lately, and as the title suggests i've been getting into the Dark Brotherhood quests lately, which are a lot of fun. I think that it was pretty awesome that they could get stealth incoporated so neatly into the game. If you are fairly stealthy and you are in a area where there aren't guards setup purposelly to stop you, you can usually get around without killing anybody/getting killed.

What irritates me however, is that there isn't a lot of integration of the main quest line into other major side quest lines. For example, the Dark Brotherhood, or even the Theives guild would make you hink that they would know what was going on with you and Martin Septim, and the mythic dawn because they are the stealthy kind of guilds that would seem to have the type of reputation for having insiders on the inside.

One other complaint, although this seems kind of silly.

The Mythic Dawn hideout. Come on.
You would think they would place it farther from civilization due to the fact that they are the antagonists in the game, but it's really close to a town. Wouldn't they place it farther away so they wouldn't get discovered? :psyduck:

So, Oblivion happenings. Lets hear about them. I'll see if I can' t get pictures of my character later.

Night is an abstraction, it can't have a color

Being a vampire has it's perks but feeding is annoying. So is the daylight thing. Also, is there any way I can recharge my enchanted items? They're so much fun.

The placement of everything is pretty random I though. Not completely, but fairly random. I could be wrong though.

Recharge using Soul Gems or Varla Stones or just go to the Mages Guild and ask.
DB's a lot of fun. but have you listened to their exploits? I mean, I can think of some possible reasons to kill, say, Rufio (maybe he, like, raped some guy's daughter years ago, or maybe he owes someone a lot of money, etc), but can anyone think of a reason that someone would pay the Dark Brotherhood to kill all the orphans?
And his entire Imperial escort.

-That reminds me of an idea I had for a webcomic: It's about a detective in the Imperial Legion who's on the trail of the So-Called Hero of Kvatch who is actually an evil *******. I had some good ideas, like discovering that the Hero knew how to Dupe weapons, or the above line about an entire Orphanage and his entire Imperial escort.

I haven't gotten to that yet...

Oh no, it's not a mission, it's something you hear the other assassin discussing. One will walk up to the other and say "I heard about the mess you got into on your last job" or something like that, and the... the... the one chick, the elf, I think, responds by talking about killing off an entire orphanage. "The children even tried to defend themselves! Hah hah hah!"
Sickos.

-The first person usually says, "You eliminated not only the target, but also his entire Imperial Leagion escort!"
2006-07-05, 10:24 PM #8
Hmm, well I never heard that.

And never will. *Wink wink*

Man I hated when it turned out that you're not really working for Lachance , but it did reveal to me what that jackass was doing in front of the Lucky Lady all that time. On the downside, I gots no more fortify luck from her.

-And when they killed Lachance it was the worst moment in the game, for me. That really sucked. And there's nothing you can do about it, either. Heartbreaking. And, according to little-miss-Goth-Imperial-Murderer for the Dark Brotherhood that one chick feasted on his entrails . Disgusting. Also, once you complete the DB quests, go back to the one farm, you know which, and there's some tombstones there you should really read...
2006-07-05, 10:59 PM #10
The death of Lachance is possibly one of the few times in a videogame where my actual emotions were seriously changed. I can fake being angry in other games, but I was seriously frustrated when I came into the room to see him tied up like an animal. I saved it and slaughtered them all, then reloaded it to get the quest.

Wow. Sounds really intense. I almost wish I hadn't read the spoilers. I felt the same way but less so when he told me to kill everyone in the sanctuary. Do you ever find out who the "traitor"is?

Nope

I have a sneaking suspicion that it may have been Ocheeva, because she was the one who directly gave out the missions and she seemed a bit...odd. Or that Khaajit, you could never interact much with him.
2006-07-06, 12:03 AM #14
You actually do find out who the traitor is, but I ain't tellin ya.
What always bugged me was how nice the Khaajit guy starts being to you right before you bathe in his blood and then cleanse the sanctuary of his fellow infidels . It's creepy. I always thought maybe he knew, or maybe he was going to be the traitor... but I guess I'll never know now.
On one of my characters, I went through the whole DB quest. On another, I killed Lachance the moment I saw him and I got his Black Hand robes for free without all the work!

-And on that note, does anybody with the Pyramid Head mod know how to get past the Seal of Metatron?

I know, but it was weird 'cause he was the easiest one to kill. Also, were you able to kill anyone with the poisoned apple? Or were you able to kill the vampire with garlic? He has an alergic reaction to it that has nothing to do with vampirism. I read his mail. :P
2006-07-06, 4:40 PM #16
I killed the orc with the poisoned apple (I duped 88 of them). It was the best moment in the game. I was sitting at the table, and had stolen all the food and placed roughly forty poison apples in the room, covering every surface. So, the Orc sits at the table with me, looks around, and grabs an apple, then starts to chew it.
Alright, I'm thinking, this is gonna be awesome!
So, he's sitting there, eating the apple, and then... he stops. And he turns. And he looks at me.
Right at me.
Straight through the monitor and into my own wretched soul.
And then, very smoothly, he tips over backwards and dies.

That was easily one of the greatest gaming moments of my life.

-I killed the vampire before I read his mail and afterwards though, ARGH. Oh well. The best part was, after killing the Argonian chick, I raided her corpse and found that book she's always reading. When you kill the Argonian dude, you find that the book he's always reading is a skill book that increases your athletics. Well, I expected nothing less from her. She's always reading it. And, I mean, come on. She's the boss of a whole crap-load of vicious killers, she's gotta be reading some major skills in there, like... increasing her levels in kick-*** or something... and I open the book... and... it was "The Lusty Argonian Maid"... She was reading porn! The whole time! Of course, that happens to be my favorite book.
2006-07-06, 7:31 PM #17
I couldn't get anyone to eat the apple or the garlic. Also, how do you duplicate stuff? Sounds fun.
2006-07-06, 8:42 PM #18
Duping the poisoned apple was dumb. All you have to do is explore Lachance's quarters, and there's a barrell with like 40 of them in there. He won't accuse you of theft at all.

I know, but I don't want 40 poisoned apples, I want 100.
And on that note, I'm doing the "Canvas The Castle" quest in Chorrol (too.. much... alliteration...) where you have to find out who took the Countess's picture of her husband. I know that the black chick did it because she has art supplies in her room, the picture's in the west tower, and she supposedly was looking at the stars despite the rain. And the roof.
Of course, the drunk dude was supposedly in there too, drinking.
My question is, what do I have to do? I've interrogated each witness and suspect, and I've found the painting supplies and the picture in the west tower. But the things tells me to look for more evidence! I've accused both suspects, and they were all "collect more evidence, n00b". So, what am I missing?

-And you dupe by aiming straight up with a bow, pressing tab, double-clicking a different thing of arrows, then dropping the item you wanna dupe. Some it won't work on, but for the most part it'll work. There will be as many duplicates of the item you dropped as there were arrows that you clicked on.
2006-07-07, 7:03 AM #20
Is it a glitch? I thought there'd be some spell or something.

EDIT: Can you kill other people with the poisoned apple? It'd be fun to try it in a guard tower.

There's some suspicious footprints to be found in the dining room. That's the last clue - the interrogations SHOULD have pointed you in that direction though.

Cyrodillic Brandy can be bought in various places, or found anywhere else. It's just a potion, like healing or beer.

-Black soul gems I'm curious about too.
2006-07-10, 8:32 PM #35
Get an empty Great Soul Gem, and a scroll of soul-trap. Go to one of the red clothed shrines outside of Dark Fissure (east from the shrine of Vaermina), Fort Istirus (east of Kvatch), Fort Linchal (north east of Kvatch), or Wendelbek (at the headwaters of the Panther River). Go at night. Wait 24 hours at a time until the day that you see a faint blue light from the moon. Wait until the light is on the shrine, then quickly put the grand soul gem into the shrine (It's a box) and cast soul trap on the shrine. Tada: Black soul gem. There are a few other ways, but those are plot spoilers. Another easy way is at higher levels (14ish?) you can get them from Necromancer bosses and chests near necromancers.

But don't go to the mage guild with a black soul gem. It's proof of necromancy. Black soul gems can capture NPCs, like humans in towns or on roads and whatnot, making them quicker to fill. They're useless once you get the Azura's star, though.

Woah.
That's insane.

-The only Black Soul Gems are the ones I found in the Mage's Guild Quest when the guild leader sends you to get the "Ring of Burden" and those don't work.
2006-07-11, 9:20 AM #37
Those are supposed to work... the shrine you find them in replenishes every week, too.

you can also make your own black soul gems...

Just put a grand soul gems (empty) into the worm god guy's shrine and wait for the beam of light. When that happens, cast soul trap on the shrine and open it again. Your grand gems will be black, and you can now soul-trap human souls.
