How close do you sit to your monitor?
2006-07-07, 8:18 PM #1
I'm just wanting to get a general idea how close people sit in relation to your monitor, just sitting in a normal position, and if you sit closer or further away when you play video games or do other tasks. I've noticed that if I sit closer to the monitor during gaming, I usually do better, but that might just be coincedence. Other than that, I sit a little further away when I'm just surfing.

I pretty much do the same, sit close for games or programming, lean back (usually) if it's not important

i sit avg. at a desk, but since its a laptop I always bring it into bed and just laydown while I check myspace and here and my mail and just general stuff. i mean it feels like the same distance if i was sitting, so I dont think its so bad, cuz at least im comfy this way...*years later when I go semi blind, i'll look back at this*

I sometimes slouch forward for some reason when I'm drawing or typing something. Maybe about 2 feet away though most of the time.
Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my clothes.

Technically you should be at arm's length from the monitor for health reasons but I tend to get a little too close when doing something like graphic design or when reading something.

It's sad to think how many hours of my life I must have spent (and will spend) sitting in front of a computer, staring at a screen. Kinda scary, to think about all the other things I could have done.

I use a tv, so I can sit on my bed and use my computer...

...

Of course I'm kidding. But I'm like, 1-1 1/2 feet from my monitor at all times.
Nothing to see here, move along.

depends what i'm doing. gaming, depends on the game. some i'm close(example - Tiger Woods, but thats mostly cause i over exaggerate my "swing," so i need more reach with the mouse.) some i'm far(example - Oblivion.)

browsing i'm generally leaned back, say 2.5 feet, sometimes three. if i'm tired, and trying to read something, like 1 foot or less.

working in photoshop, 1-1.5 feet.

between half a foot and three feet.

my chair is swingy.
2006-07-08, 7:57 AM #26
Usually slouched back when reading or other unimportant stuff, because it's a nice comfy leather swivel chair. The tips of my fingers can just brush the screen from where I am now. When I'm gaming I'll lean forward, though. I feel disconnected from the action if I'm not close to the screen. Same goes for console gaming, too. I've always got a little pool of slack controller wire by my feet.

My fist is about half a foot away if I do that. I like to lean back and relax :)

Somewhere between 2 and 3 feet. I can put my arm out and still not reach the monitor with my fingers outstretched.
