Why does almost everyone online too lazy to type out "You" and instead puts "U" almost always use stupid emoticon things for every last letter in their lines? I'm getting tired of having to wait a minute to read their message because the letters QRZYMTUIPSLOW all have their own image. I'm at the point where I'm ready to turn the damn things off if it weren't for the occasional entertaining ones (IE: All the ones Jepman uses, the funny animations).

But WHY do they do that? And it's not just the girls. I just finished talking to a friend and I had to wait litterally 45 seconds for a line of text to load.

Oh, and then they have all those bloated "Lol, ttyl, cya, buh-bye, idk, y, u" images. Not only are the being lazy and typing half their line in code, but they're typing it in flashy, bloated code.

The only acronyms I usually use are as follow:

brb
cya (not an acronym, just a shortened version)
ttyl

and occasionally

bbs
imo (VERY rarely used)

Aside from that I type EVERYTHING out, generally. As you can see, 4 of those are leaving acronyms/shortened typings. CYA, TTYL, BBS, and BRB. All 4 of those I use because if I have to leave or they have to leave right then, I generally don't have time to type out "I'll talk to you later tonight. See you later."

Oh, I forgot. I do occasionally use "lol" when talking with my friends. But that's only because they're just like "wtf?" if I say "Haha" or something to that effect.

I personally like emoticons because sometimes it's hard to tell the meanings of sentences, but if there's a :p you can tell its sarcastic. or can let you know they're not upset. or can tell you they're really happy.

Alright then, exaggeration. They're usually just leaving rather soon, so I just type that in fast. Just seems simpler.

When I raid in WoW, 1 second is enough time to either make or break the raid.

I really only use FTW and rofl for acronyms. I overuse and as smilies.

I'm willing to bet that the wording in your contact is "up to 2mb", not "2mb". You have the potential to get 2mb, but you'll rarely ever get it.

Not a clue. But if its any help Blueyonder are shoddy in regulating stuff and the bandwidth testers say I get more like 3.5.

I hate graphical emotes in IMs. I killed them all in Trillian so all I see is text. It makes me a happy person.

Sometimes older keyboards break. I know some of the keys on my old wireless keyboard stick horribly, so typing the entire word "before" might look like "Beeeeeeeeeeeforeeeeeee," so "B4" was MUCH easier than backspacing each and every one of the extra e's!

That means you have absolutely no excuse to post on a message board that isn't real time without sparing the extra .5 seconds it takes to use the 2 to 4 extra keystrokes that would make your post comprehendible. What amazes me is that you still have time to rapidly press/hold down the 1 key while simultaneously holding the shift key to suffix each sentence with 11 or so exclamation points. I really honestly don't care if you're used to typing that way on aim. Really, that isn't exactly what I'm thinking when I'm reading your posts.

But you know what? Maybe it's a God damned good thing you use that absolutely annoying combination of numbers, letters, and phonetics: It's a buffer. It is a rare occurrence, but once in a while I will take the 4 minutes required to read one of your attempts at a posts, and I happen to realize a few reoccurring themes: Piles Of ****.

So now when I see a post that begins "lol!!!1111!" I am immediately able to weed out the post, and avoid losing several minutes of my life to deciphering a codex detailing how the YouTube.com video of two girls dancing to the latest crap song their favorite out-of-style-haircut-emo-band came out with that the thread is referring to is "lol! omg funi!" Thank you for providing me with that excellent method of censoring. You should suggest your dialect to other aspiring idiots, so that I can maximize my thread reading experience.

Yep, me too. I don't mind them in the forums, but in IMs they're annoying. Especially the ones with sound attached. Like the emoticon for LMAO.

As far as abbreviations go, the only one that I've really used recently is IIRC. I don't know why, but I use that rather than typing the phrase out. You'll never catch me loling or rofling or lmao-ing. Though I may rolf (rolling on the laughing floor. You roll on it, and it laughs for you. Old joke that occured in the chat ages ago. I don't even remember who started it). Also, substituting numbers for whole parts of words, such as b4, is incredibly annoying and an way to get instantly ignored by me. Same with typing a million exclamation points, unless it is an obvious joke.

Internet speak sucks. So does cell phone text message writing. This pretty much sums up my thoughts on text messaging (LANGUAGE):
