India (a secular democracy) has been fighting with Pakistan (a moslem democracy?) over Kashmir. A wing of Al Qaeda I believe has been waging war on the Indian government to help Pakistan take over Kashmir. For this reason India formed close ties with Israel which probably further infuriated Al Qaeda.

Yes, because violent retaliation solves everything! Don't get me wrong, this is a tragic event, but more killing will not remedy the situation.

Israel and Palestine are a testament to how well violence against violence works.

It's too bad about India. I'm hoping that those responsible are brought to justice.

Pakistan is not a democracy. President Musharaf (sp?) installed himself as the nation's leader in a military coup sometime in the 90's.

This tragedy is analogous to the bombings in NYC (9/11), London, and Madrid. London was 7/7. This was 7/11. My sympathies go to the Mumbai population. Trains in India are a huge part of the transportation infrastructure, especially in urban settings. It's very convenient, especially when the alternative is horrible congestion in the streets. Unfortunately, the trains run over safe capacities frequently; according to a recent issue of Time, 3500 people die in train accidents annually in India. Inevitably, the death toll was going to be high.

You're right, violence never solved anything. Except for Nazism and fascism, violence doesn't do much.

I must say... this is begging to irritate even me. I am usually sad about such incidents, but this one upsets me. What makes me upset is that this world is full of idiots and crazy people, as soon as Al Qaeda appears to be crushed, some other fool will take the stand and bring it all back again. We can't defeat this enemy. They hide and run, and when they are dead, some one else takes their place. It is simply impossible. They will not hesitate to kill you or me, if we are not with them. They care nothing but to destroy our our ideals, beliefs, values and everything that is not within their way of life. We can't blame Muslims/Islam or Christians/Catholics (or any other religion that opposes Alqaeda). Then who can we blame? In the end, I blame greed, for the root of all this evil. Greed seems to apply everywhere in where this began. Just too many greedy people these days.
Nothing to see here, move along.

What the spaz does greed have to do with worldviews in collision???

Violence ended the halocaust, saved South Korea from "Communism", has removed countless dictators from power and has improved the lives of millions.

Are you actually serious? I don't see the logic in not retaliating. Clinton tried that, and America kept getting the **** bombed out of us again and again. Are we supposed to say "Oh, you silly terrorists. Keep killing innocents, we won't try to do anything to stop you."

I'm sure that's real likely to work.

Well no, considering we never went to war with China or Russia or Cuba.

Vietnam was a conflict that was not able to be "solved". Diem had already ran the south into the ground by the time the war started. Seeing as America and India have not been ran straight into the ground, violence remains a sensible action to take.

And greed doesn't have anything to do with anything. It's called hate.

Hold on a min... we were helping China to become a Republic many many years ago by arming them... how ever they lost.

Cuba: Bay of Pigs... remember?

Russia: We weren't involved in that conflict, but that conflict eventually set up the political system that had the Cold War with us.

Our greed caused their hate.

China= I have no idea what you're talking about. During WWII, we supplied weapons to the communist factions in China. They were able to hold their own against the Japanese. Hence, Violence saved China from defeat by the Japanese.

Cuba= Sending a small amount of Cuban exiles into Cuba without any form of support was not a sensible decision. Do you really think that if the US had decided to invade Cuba that it wouldn't be able to remove Castro from power?

Russia= Again, I have no idea what you are talking about. If you're talking about the Bolshevik Revolution, it was a resounding success. The Communists wanted to remove the rubbish government that they had in place, and they did just that. Therefore, violence allowed the Commies to do what they where trying to do.

Yes, I'm in the States right now, and I didn't even hear about this until a couple days after it happened. I live in Delhi anyway, not Mumbai.

Are we sure this is Al Qaeda? I'd bet it's not. India is actually pretty safe for foreigners because all the violence is directed at other Indians. It's very sad. These Muslim extremists are probably extremist separatists.

I am surprised at the size of the blast though. There hasn't been anything this big for a while.

China... the fact that we were supplying/selling weapons to a side, gets us involved.
Cuba... we failed at that operation, but the effects made the situation worse.
Russia, we had nothing to do with it... but violence just changed one political set up for another that made the Cold war.

In short... violence has not improved much of anything.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Once again I bring up the fact that fascism was overthrown violently and not by peace talks. I would call that something. (violence 1 - you 0)
Violence gets things done. China fought back against the Japanese. It was violence that saved them from Fascism and Japanese imperialism (violence 2 - you 0)

In regards to Cuba, one bad mistake doesn't discredit the entire thing. Besides, the Fidel slaughtered the exiles, which means that violence saved his government from being toppled. 3-0 in favor of violence.

Russia= so what if it just changed one political set up for another. That was the entire goal of the revolution. Hence, a history of violence beats your logic 4 to zip.
