Which voice chat program do you prefer?

Just curious. I personally prefer to use Team Speak since I use it the most. Haven't used Ventrillo too much.

My bro's CS:S clan uses Vent. and I play with them, so I use that.

I use TeamSpeak when I'm playing Raven Shield

Vent is nice because it tells you who is connecting, and has much better audio codecs. TS has a cuter interface and the servers are free, so it's a bit of a trade-off.

I prefer Vent though.

Back in the day, I remember using Roger Wilco, which was quite effective. Haven't used voicechat in ages though, thanks to a broken mic.

I've only ever used teamspeak, however my headset is a bit broken, so I had to hold the mic in my mouth.

Anyway, Landfish couldn't hear me so that ended quick.
nope.

Voice chat is creepy.

I've use it once or twice on auto assault.

Makes for an interesting time.

Vent or Skype

Skype and Ventrillo

I've got Skype, but right now that's mainly for calls from my room, not so much for "chatting"

Skype, if I'm just talking, is my favorite by far. But it only supports 3 or 4 people on a regular connection, then things start getting laggy as we learned on RTfM. Ventrilo is excellent. The codecs are far and away above Teamspeak's, the interface is much simpler, it lags a lot less, it's just a better voice chat program all around.

I use steam so I don't need a chat program.

Then again, I don't have a mic so I can't even use the programs if I had them :)

What does Steam have to do with anything?

Because I didn't want to type out "Games that use the Half-Life 1 and 2 engine" because it'll be too damn long to squeeze in there. Yes, I'm aware that not all games available on Steam use those two engines but let's not get terrible nit picky about it.

I use the "Text chat" button. I don't have a mic. :(

Also, HL1/2/mods's voice codec has to be the ****tiest codec ever made. Even Roger Wilco sounds better, and that thing is old as ****.

Servers for HL1-based games can change the voice codec to a better sounding one.

It's a necessity if you want to play sound effect WAVs over voice chat like I do, heh heh heh :v:

Vent. T.S. keeps crashing on me, and I've used Vent for various occassions.
Nothing to see here, move along.

It's voice! Who gives a flying crap if it sound bad? As long as its comprehensible (Which it is), then who cares? I don't. :psyduck:

Because half the time it's not comprehensible. And when you're trying to tell someone you're getting bumrushed at B and all they say is "WTF are you saying" then it starts to irritate you.

I prefer not to use voice chat, mainly because I do not speak much.
I can't wait for the day schools get the money they need, and the military has to hold bake sales to afford bombs.

Forgetting somehting? Lag? Like when you ask for help, and by the time they reply you've already been killed twice.

Of course built-in voice chat in games is going to be horrible. If it had a better codec, it would use too much bandwidth that's much more needed for the game itself. Just think, you need to cross the path of a sniper? Just hold your talk key and lag yourself right on through. That's what printscreen is for though :v:

IIRC BF2 supports voice hosting on a seperate server from the one you're playing on. Too bad it's such a horrible game.

Would be nice if MMOs out there like WoW and Guild Wars (I know, I know GW isn't technically a MMO blah blah blah) could support voice chat. That way you don't have to go through the hassle of getting your party setup with a 3rd-party voice chat program.

Example:

player 1: "hey, do u hav vent?"
player 2: "no"
player 1: "go download it"

*a few minutes later*

player 2: "k I hav it installed now"
player 1: "ip is 192.168.38.42 port 3425. pass is stupidnoob"

*a couple of minutes later*

player 2: "k wich chanel"
player 1: "hoh/gvg channel. Pass is stfunoob"

*even more minutes later*

player 2: "how do I get teh mic to wrk"
player 1: "Click on setup"

*about 5-10 minutes later*

player 2: "sorry my dad says I hav to get off cya"
player 1: *groans*

And yes, I thought of that two days ago actually.

Every time I can't understand someone, its cause of their crappy mic or their crappy internet connection.

So yeah, uh, no :p I never run into that.
