Please dont bother voting if you are using Windows or Mac OS.

While I am more used to KDE, I think I'm going to switch.

I know that each has it's own advantages, but I want to hear your opinions on the two desktop environments.

I voted KDE since I use Kubuntu. Haven't experimented with GNOME; don't know enough about Linux to do so.

I do too. I really want to try Ubuntu, though. It seems to be the more popular of the two anyways. I'll try anything once. :P

Windowmaker

KDE has too much bloat for my needs and I didn't think gnome was set out all the logically. This was a while ago, so I imagine they have improved. I like windowmaker because it's small, stable, quick and has just the right amount of features. The only downside is that they have a slow release cycle.

I'm probably the only person in this thread that will choose gnome.

I use ubuntu predominantly too

I am now posting from Gnome. It may take a while to re-adjust, but I think I like it.

To me, KDE is the lesser of two evils. But in all honesty, I hate the way the GUI system runs in Linux. XOrg/XFree86 should have been scrapped LONG ago. XGL does offer a glimmer of hope.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Gnome sucks, and KDE blows. I choose KDE.

I voted Other for Windows XP Pro.

Enlightenment or FluxBox.

I find both Gnome and KDE way too bloated.

KDE.
I like my bloat and IMHO it's easier to set up KDE the way I like it.
There's just a certain feel I don't like about Gnome.

You mean the feeling of no customizability? Oh, wait, it's customizable...it's just that no one knows how.

KDE and Gnome aren't inherently bloated, but are frequently packaged with a ton of bloat. Barebones KDE is...well, bare.

KDE is technically superior and I prefer its interface design, but Gnome offers more localization features and Ubuntu integrates it far better than Kubuntu integrates KDE.

I pick KDE just because I'm used to programming with QT, and have never touched GTK.

What do you mean by more localization features? I haven't seen anything that was untranslated in KDE.

KDE. io-slaves kick the living **** out of GNOME.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

I like KDE better than Gnome. Under FreeBSD, Gnome is a total mess due to their overly Linux-centric development model. I also dislike GTK.

KDE is my favourite.

I also have been known to use Twm just for fun when I'm in a retro mood....

Because there is an "Other" option:

FLUXBOX

Seriously. It's damn fast, sleek, configurable, and it'll work even on some really old PCs.

If I HAD to choose KDE or GNOME, it'd be KDE. GNOME rubs me the wrong way.

I'm now using Gnome with xgl x-server and compiz. It is so cool. :D

I put the "Other" option for that exact reason. I agree with you too; I run fluxbox on my Xbox Debian installation. (Xebian)

I use IceWM exclusively. So nice and simple and fast. Who needs features???

io-slaves ROCKS.

KDE FTW. Also because I've grown to love the various KDE apps: amaroK, Kopete, and KDevelop in particular.

I use gnome, but I rarely use the GUI in linux anyway, so whatever.

I use Gnome because it came with Ubuntu, and I was used to the look of GTK stuff from using GIMP in Windows. I might check out some other stuff when I get the hang of Linux in general.
