PS3 Pre-orders?
2006-08-03, 11:19 PM #1
After what happened last year with the X-box 360, I think I will take the opportunity this year to make as much money as possible on the PS3.

Does anyone know of anywhere to pre-order?? I need to get my hands on as many of these things as I can find.

By this time last year, there were plenty of pre-order sites for the 360.

Any ideas/suggestions/comments?

i doubt you'd find any for less then 600 bucks, i'd say stock up on cash for a looooong time if you're trying to scam people into paying for it.

Haha. Pre-ordering a console is like playing russian roulette with 4 bullets: You're about to get shot in the god damned head.

I dont imagine many reputable places will be offering pre-orders until a confirmed price and release date has been announced by Sony.

Aye.

Hrmm, pre-orders for the PS3 could be interesting, considering the cock-up they had over here with the PS2. They only had enough units to fill half the Pre-ordered demand, and even then only 3/4 of them worked.
nope.

The down payment for the pre-order will probably be $500 at the price PS3 is going!

My bet is you won't need a pre-order. Shops will be begging people to take them off their hands at that price point.

Point?

And I'm sure they'll run out in the first day or so, like always. People act like 600 is a lot to pay for a console (which I agree it's quite a bit), but with the 360 already at 400 for a decent version and another 180+ for the HD-DVD drive etc, it's not THAT big of a deal.

Once distribution really ramps up I believe you are correct however ...

I believe he is correct that the game freaks will ensure that the console sells out the first day. I disagree with his opinion on pricing though. I doubt many people other than the hardcore game freaks will think $600 is anywhere near reasonable for a mediocre blueray player that probably won't even be the next-gen format of choice. Most people will simply wait until reasonably priced full featured next-gen DVD players are available since many of them will fail to see the point to upgrade from their current DVD players.

Im just trying to get as many as possible and hope that the frenzy that happened last year with the Xbox 360 happens again with the PS3 so I can make big $$ on E-bay!

OK, you have a point. But look at it this way.

Commercials always advertise things at "ONLY 19.99!" or "For less than $20!" or "Only 5 easy payments of $34.95"

When it doesn't flat out say the whole amount, people find it more appealing. If the 360 sold for $580 I am willing to bet (albeit not much) it wouldn't have sold/still sell as well as opposed to $400.

You're talking about a nation whose parents are looking for Christmas gifts and wanting to save gas money, because we know that SUV for their 3 person family is a requirment.

It's this train of though that's going to make the 360 sell slightly better, in my opinion. People can go "Hey! I can get the expensive 360 and another game or two for the SAME price as the cheap PS3!"

But that's just my 2 cents. And this isn't factoring the Wii into the mix.

I'm sorry, I just cannot see the justification for dropping $400 to $600 on a console. $200 is pushing it. Even at holiday time I cannot see the PS3 booming. $600 is A LOT OF MONEY!

It will be more succesful at that price point because of the blu-ray player. I know of at least four people that will be buying a PS3, and never intend to play a game on it.

I suppose I will get a PS3 since/if Final Fantasy games will be released for it.

Wii seems tempting otherwise.

Blu Ray is patented by Sony, no? So anyone wishing to publish a movie on Blu-Ray would have to go through Sony and pay out the ***, wouldn't they?

Is HDDVD patented by any particular company?

Does anybody know how many units the US is getting? I heard somewhere like 10 million which is a lot considering Microsoft only had about 900,000 the first month

No... Sony's trying to get people over to their camp--they're not going to charge people to publish if they want ANYONE in their camp.

Also, the PS3 will sell well. It will. Sony's marketing machine is better than any other console's, their setup, while expensive, is much more interactive than any other consoles, and finally, you guys are forgetting there's a 500 dollar version which, while not as good, isn't gimped. At least not completely. It's a lot better off than the 360's 300 dollar version which still sold rather well.

I wonder who would be foolish enough to pay even more than the already steep $/€600 if they could just as well wait a few weeks for the next shipment of PS3s to arrive. >.>;;

Personally I'd just go for a Wii by comparsion that'll leave me anything between $400 and $350 to spend on games and accessories (like extra controllers) before even getting to the $600 needed to just get the PS3 with one controller and no games. >.>;;

1) 600 euros IS stupidly expensive. I don't agree with that price point. 600 bucks isn't so bad.
2) The revolution will save you a max of 350 dollars, though no official price point has been set yet.
3) I also agree I'll probably get a rev before a PS3, though. The price is somewhat offputting, but not enough for me to delay the purchase indefinitely.

$600 for a console is rediculous.... purely. I refuse to buy a 360 because $400 is too much. $300 is the most i will pay for any system, EVER.

$US600 isn't all that expensive for a blu-ray player and brand new console at early adoption prices. It's relatively "cheap", but since I don't care two hoots about blu-ray (or HD-DVD), $US600 ifar too much for something to play games on, especially when that amount of money will net me a mildly impressive computer.
