Finally got my wisdom teeth out!
2006-08-04, 2:32 PM #1
so yesterday I went and got them taken out at 7:45am, crazy huh.

Well one minute I was talking to the doctor, the next I was awake and it was all over with. I got home and felt the urge to spit (tmi, I know) so I did, and it was just pure blood.

so yeah yesterday was fun, I was spitting out blood like it was nobody's business. I've been drinking lots of gatorade, having scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes and i've been in and out of consciouness because of the medicine. I feel better today, but now my cheeks are swollen

my right cheek more then my left cheek. it looks like im trying to store food for the winter! lol and yeah my family took pix, but no way im posting those on here lol. I look so funny.

oh and i've had to wear a "face bra" with the ice packs in them for my cheeks. but that thing feels great. but its on for 20minutes and then off for 20minutes over and over.

anywho so yeah. just thought i'd share. lol

I was awake when they pulled mine, and they tore them out.

So quit being such a goddamn wuss :P

Getting put under is weak, and it extends recovery time. I had topical anesthesia only, and I was back in school the next day.

Care to cite some sources on that information? I've never heard of that. It usually wears off within a few hours.

No sources in particular, but the surgeon who took out mine and my brother's mentioned it in consultation, and as I mentioned I was well enough to attend school the next day, while my brother was sick for several. I guess it is really unrelated to recovering from the tooth extraction, but general anesthesia is something you must recover from in and of itself.

I don't know if radiation treatment has somehow stopped me from getting them, but I guess it would be nice if I would get some and that would explain my crooked tooth.

Mine have been out for almost 2 years now.
2006-08-06, 8:43 PM #10
my cheeks are still swollen! lol not as bad as they were though lol. im bruised where they put the injection (normal) the bleeding is gone, but currently my jaw is still sore, and my right ear hurts as well as my throat when I swallow.

besides that all is dandy, I can take pain pills for that, and im just waiting for the swelling to go away. im so glad all those are out and im done with it! lol :D

I had mine out last summer. Painful :psyduck:
2006-08-06, 8:49 PM #12
U'll be ok ORJ, I think i just got more puffy in the face then most. I dont even think my sis was a puffy as I got. and as far as the blood its normal, and it was only a lot on the first day...which is normal being that I had 4 holes in my mouth. after that its like 2 days of lightly blood tinged water and then its gone.

just take your meds and it'll be fine. I just got woozy cuz I dont like blood, but with the pain meds I didnt really feel too much

Wisdom Teeth was a great experience for me. Procedure didn't hurt it all. Of course, I couldn't eat anything or open my mouth wide for the next couple of days, but I got to skip work, and just stay home and watch TV and take really really long naps.

Wisdom teeth for me were only the last in a plethora of dental surgery, so the blood didn't bother me much. I had many times before experienced the joys of drooling blood onto my pillow at night.

Anyone else take Tylenol with codeine? I took one the day of the surgery, expecting it to help me take a really nice nap. Instead, I find myself getting all fidgety and having to change positions every couple of seconds. I thought that opiates were supposed to be downers.

Had it done last Summer. Wasn't terrible, but waking up with the taste of blood in your mouth for a month or so sucks.

well mine were bothering me. the bottom left (that was the furthest out oddly enough) kept throbbing, and since I was getting one out I decided to just do all 4 and get them all out of the way at once

it depends. If they're impacted, they'll mess up the rest of your teeth and might make your jaws hurt later in life.

if they are coming in straight, then it shouldn't make a difference.

It really sucks when your wisdom teeth already stick out. Some of my wisdom teeth were pointing dead-on foreward, about to pick a fight with my other teeth. DANGIT ALL but I got'em killed before their prime ;)

BTW codeine sucks, Ibuprofin got me through!
This is retarded, and I mean drooling at the mouth

Not fun, the worst part is the lack of foods that go crunch and much. you get tired of flish flish foods after a while. and ice/heat/ice/heat was a pain. But thankfuly I'm done with it all and fully recovered by now

If you can eat scrambled eggs and mashed potatoes you're a lot better off than I was. I could barely swallow jellow and pudding it hurt so bad. I mostly lived off slimfast-like shakes for protein, and I was this way for about a week. I think they messed up my pain medication, cause everyone else I talk to says when they were on it they didn't have pain, or it was minimal. I was in constant pain.

They gave me a prescription for 800 mg ibuprofen or something, which is pointless. I just downed like four tylenols a few times a day.

damn that sux. Well im still slightly swollen, and my throat and right ear hurts. my face is a little bruised. I still cant chew food yet. Its really a bummer, because i've craved sandwiches and the like, and I cant have them yet, its annoying to not be able to eat that yet

Ok, so I'm just back from the dentist, mine just got pulled. My mouth is still numb from the anaesthetics.
The pulling itself wasn't that bad, luckily it was just one tooth. I'm biting a stupid gauze and my mouth is full of blood. :o

oh you just had one? oh you'll be fine in no time. what's taking so long for me is healing from having 4 out :)
2006-08-08, 7:29 PM #27
I had 4 out too, but like I said, they pulled mine out and I was awake.

The recovery took about 2 days, so why are yours taking so long?

I have to get mine pulled eventually.

I dont know, you tell me.

earlier i thought I had food stuck in my back teeth so i was trying to brush it and I was tasting blood, had my mom check and she told me it was my blood clot and to leave it alone cuz if it comes out it'll be excruiating pain

so yeahhh luckily I didnt bother it anymore, cuz that would have sucked. as of today my cheeks are no longer swollen my mouth is still sore. I think i'll be recooped by next week.

I think my healing process might be taking longer because I found out that I grind my teeth and chomp sometimes while I'm sleeping. after im done with this im thinking about looking into a mouth guard

anyways I figure that's why it's continued to be sore and slow healing cuz that has irritated things etc
