Pirates Continuity...?
2006-08-05, 10:27 PM #1
I saw Dead Man's Chest for the second time today.
If anyone is enough of a nerd to see the movie again, or to verify this somehow...but it seemed to me that I came upon a continuity error.
I could be wrong, someone tell me?

MAJOR SPOILERS

Sequence of events.
Jack, norrington, will fight.
Elizabeth does stuff and tries to get them to stop. ("Oh the heat! *fake faints*")
2 pirates say "we should remove the temptation (dead man's chest)" and grab it.
Elizabeth follows them
Elizabeth catches up to them and has no sword so they say "hey puppy" and bring their swords out to do... who knows what... to her.
As they come toward her, the windmill waterway thingy with jack, norrington, and will on it goes by, they shrug it off and continue after elizabeth.
Behind elizabeth are Davey jone's water sea people, so everyone runs.
The 2 pirates hold each side of the chest, then they walk past a tree that knocks the chest from their hands, because each of them are on either side of the tree and the chest is in between them.
Elizabeth and the 2 pirates fight off the sea people and... I don't remember exactly but one of the sea people grabs the chest and runs.
(Sketchy on that part)

Jack Finally get his key, see's the guy with dead mans chest (will and norrington still fighting on the windmill thingy), and knocks his head off with a coconut.
Jack opens the chest and get's davey jone's heart, then more sea people come by and he runs.

Jack heads to his mini-boat and puts the heart in the jar of dirt.
Elizabeth and the 2 pirate guys are fighting WITH THE DEAD MAN'S CHEST and with swords in the ocean near the boat.
Norrington and will's water-mill thingy crashes in the water and they head toward the big fight.
Norrington steals the heart from the jar of dirt.
stuff happens
Norrington takes the Dead man's chest and runs with it.

So how did the 2 pirate guys get the chest AFTER Jack opened it and took teh heart?
They dropped it earlier...and the sea guys found it.
How would norrington have a chest to take if jack left it behind?

Did the 2 pirate guys take the chest a SECODN TIME after jack opened the chest and took davey jones' heart?

maybe I missed it when I was watching, but it didn't stop bugging me since I saw that scene a second time.

Also, they say "Hello Poppet", a poppet being the name of a doll at the time.

Also, I'm pretty sure Jack took the heart out and dropped the chest, and the two pirates picked up the empty chest.

I don't remember, but what is wrong with you? I honestly enjoyed that movie more than Episode III and saw it twice, (even though I saw Episode III 6 times). I am definatly BUYING this movie when its released, when I have the money. Man I loved it, and I hope that the sequel is just as good or better.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Let's be honest, Veger, you said you were sketchy, and that "stuff happens". I think you probably missed part of the movie :P

I've only seen it once (loved it), so I can't remember exactly the sequence of events.

Who's talking about episode 3???

Also, maybe you wouldn't be so broke if you didn't watch lame movies six times.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

ok, I'll admit I was pretty tired when I wrote that.

But basically I'm saying this.

The 2 pirates (one is fat, one has no eyeball) that take the chest in the beginning somehow end out with it AFTER Jack opens it and takes the heart.
Somehow, the chest ends up in thei hands AGAIN as everyone is nearing the small boat that they came to the island on.

Does anyone remember seeing them pick up the chest again?

I mean it was a pretty quick scene, lots of stuff was going on at once.
I completely skipped over the fight in the bell tower, the fight in the sand, the majority of the fight on the spinning thing, and jack's attempt to get the key on the inside of the spinning thing.

I also know that the sea guys got the key from the norrington guy because he tried to run off to save everyone else, and to take the heart he stole back to the british, and he threw the chest at them when they surrounded him, and he ran off.

But how did the chest go from where jack left it (He took the heart and put it in his shirt, but left the chest behind) to the boat where norrington stole the heart and ran with the chest to draw off the sea men.

Can anyone verifyingly say "I saw them take it to the boat after jack took the heart" ?

I remember them both bending over and picking it up, yes.

did some looking, I found this from IMDB.com

Continuity: When Sparrow takes the thumping heart out of the chest, and then takes off leaving the empty chest to the other pirates, he leaves the key on it. Yet when the camera zooms out on top of the chest, the key is no longer in the chest.

If jack "left it to the other pirates" then I guess the other pirates must have taken the chest :P. I must have just not seen them take it or something.

That's a plot point .. the whole point was that voodoo lady knows how to bring people back from the dead

I thought it was stupid however that they slipped in one line at the beginning of the movie to invalidate any possibility of going back to isle de la muerte (something about being "lost to the sea") just so they wouldn't have to deal with it any more .. it wouldve been nice to see a return of the aztec gold and a undead skeletons vs. davy jones sea people fight

I don't remember anything about it being lost at sea.
I remember the warning about not taking the gold because you would fall under it's curse, but that's it.

There are many theories as to how Barbossa is alive. One is that the Monkey gave him a coin when Jack shot him (look at the end of the credits of Pirates 1, where you see the monkey with a coin if I remember correctly).

Another theory is that Barbossa didn't die but was severly injured, and made his way to the voo doo witch like lady, and this could fit as you see him on a bed when they first go to the lady, or atleast his boots.

And yet another theory, the lady resurrected him.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Yes, the monkey has a coin. Hence why *IT* is immortal.

Haha, "If you don't know Keira Knightly, she's kind of a slightly more mannish Orlando Bloom."

I love that line, even though Keira Knightly's hot.
I had a blog. It sucked.

How is she mannish in any way shape or form?

Compared to Orlando Bloom, she's a frikkin Lumberjack.
And, as to why Barbossa's alive...

- "...a ship with black sails that's crewed by the damned, and captained by a man so evil that Hell itself spat him back out."

So he can't be killed? He'll just keep coming back... don't think they'll want that.
