Yoshi and Emon have been helping me out. I usually trust both of them, but I want other suggestions as well.

I've been eyeing the Creative Zen V Plus for a while now, and been waiting for it to get out.

However, the Toshiba Gigabeat S or whatever is what Yoshi suggest...the only reason I'm undecided is that I go to the gym a lot, and it doesn't look like a typicall one you'll take to the gym.

So, suggest some neat MP3 players. You can suggest iPod if you'd like, but I'd prefer something different.

I love long battery life.
I'm not interested in watching many videos on it, but would time to time.
Something cheaper than $400.

Here's a few:

Pretty cool

Rather large

No video, but still cool

If I were to choose between the Creative or Toshiba that you mentioned, I would go with the Toshiba. More storage, more features it looks like.

Get a ****in' gPod. Buy an iPod shuffle off of eBay, and for a small fee I'll help make the complicated masking tape mods for you to make it an official gPod.
I had a blog. It sucked.

I kinda like the iAudio look, except that "Sound Color" or whatever on the screen.

I've got me a Creative Nano Plus and I love it. It plays great, comes with a decent pair of earphones and its very useful for my workout sessions. Just strap it to my arm and run run run runnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.

HD players are not exactly the best idea for any activity that might submit the player to sudden jolts

a good flash player might be a better idea
eat right, exercise, die anyway

HD players are fine for working out--they used to suck but the caching is good enough now that it really makes no difference in the jolting. If you really insist on a flash player, though, I say the iAudio U2
