Yeah, I saw this on the news this morning. They've severely restricted the items passengers are allowed to take on board (wallets/purses, medicine...basically essential items). I also believe congestion is getting pretty bad in certain airports, which sucks because my parents are leaving for Paris tomorrow.
2006-08-10, 6:58 AM #4
My mom is at an airport in England right now. She called up telling us that all the flights got canceled.
Think while it's still legal.

My girlfriend just returned from London. She got a little worried because there were unusual amounts of helicopters over London the past few days. Apparently they were expecting something.

Well, this is good news. A day without terrorism is always a good day.

How did they find out about this plot?

Pun intended?

Because that's pretty much what the British seem to have done - adverting it. I haven't seen anything yet that could've led to the suspicions they say to have 'a good base' for. It seems ironic since I was thinking yesterday about where all the "terrorist threats" went.

Don't get me wrong, I do believe terrorism exists, I don't see any reason to it in this case though.
2006-08-10, 10:04 AM #9
I read an article about this. Did they say where they came from? Where they were working from? Was it within Britain or did they come form another country?

Exactly how far along were they?
2006-08-10, 10:36 AM #10
Police were all over the place at the train stations today (in and around London) as well. I guess they're on the lookout for any guys they haven't caught yet diverting their bombing attempts to public transport.

(On the plus side we haven't shot any innocent people yet which seems to have become the standard with high profile raids lately)
2006-08-10, 11:01 AM #11
We call them terrorists. They call themselves freedom fighters.

Well yeah. I'm guessing they will consider this as a 'victory' of some sort, perphaps claiming they succeeded in causing fear or something.

Uhh. Helicopters stop terrorists how? I don't think they deploy helicopters for anti-terrorism usually.

But while I was typing that, I had a thought. It's probably police helicopters watching the area while they were raiding the terrorist homes to prevent escape.

I'm going flying saturday at midday to spain. Hopefully the flight won't be cancelled.

I'm sure that everyone here has heard abot the latest terrorist plot that was foiled in the UK. (surprised that there's no thread about it yet)

I do think people are over-reacting, though. Now, you can't have liquid of any kind in the so-called sterile area of any airport, no idea how long that will last. It seems kind of stupid-- the terrorists have had their plan to use liquid explosives fail, so why would a real terrorist be stupid enough to try the same trick again? All these new secrity mesures do is inconvenience regular people.

I'm also very adverse to flying these days, and it's due to the inconvenience, not fear of terrorists. Stuff like this just makes it worse.

I refuse to fly until security measures die down. I won't be an enabler to the creation of some nazi police state.

And now they've started to speak in Germany about how they needed to "strengthen security" even more. :psyduck:

I guess in a few years all Islamic people need to register and gather in peace camps... :(
Sorry for the lousy German

i'm so glad this attack didn't happen.

Think how much it would delay the release of Snakes on a Plane if it did.

They're just poor, uneducated, brainwashed phychopaths who don't have a job so they devise hatred-relieving plots to murder as many innocent "non-their religion" pedestrians as possible because they are too cowardly to fight for real. Send them to peace camps; maybe then they'll learn something useful.

Poor, yes; brainwashed, yes; psychopaths, probably. Cowards? Don't be silly. If you build a fantasy world around yourself like that you're doing the same thing they are.

Considering I'm in Stockholm (and am heading soon to Copenhagen), but live in Manchester, England. I sure hope this clears up pretty soon, as I'd hate to get stuck in Scandinavia, despite how cool it is here.

I'm pretty sure suicide attacks is the exact opposite of cowardice. Cowerdice is dumping toxens into water supplies and such.
2006-08-12, 3:23 PM #35
it is cowardly. Killing yourself and a bunch of innocent poeple is incredibly cowardly. You dont even have to answer for you actions because you're dead.

Anyway, I'm glad i've already been on holiday and come back.

but you're also throwing your life away for the faith that what you're doing is right. if some guy got beaten to death by muslims for preaching the word of christ in the streets of Iran or whatever, you wouldn't call him cowardly :P
