A not-so-ordinary adventure in the life of Sam
2006-08-15, 12:18 PM #1
So today was positively beautiful outside. Upper-70's, bit of humidity, nice breeze.

Matt and I were sitting down at our patio table after playing frisbee for a bit, when I turn to him and inquire "I wonder if Gorilla Tape will hold me up? It's supposed to be 'The Toughest Tape on Earth'."

Matt started at me like I was insane, and I told him to fetch the tape. He did, and we set to work. I tried all sorts of variations and bonds to tape me to the tree using my hands. None worked. Then I looked up and remember my inspiration: A cup I taped to the tree.

I went and grapped an old pail filled with water, we taped that to the tree. Matt grabbed a trashcan, we taped that to the tree. I grabbed a gas can, we taped that to the tree. Matt threw a frisbee to me, and we taped that to the gas can. I tied my shoe the the gas can, and then taped it as well knowing it needed a good bond.

So I had a nice adventure today (about 5 minutes ago), albeit not very adventureous.

We were going to try taping that chair to the tree, but decided against it. Should I go back outside and try the chair as well?

Oh, and therefore I AM TOUGHER THAN GORILLA TAPE, OBVIOUSLY.

This post is inspired by kyle90, and his wild adventures.

I thought you were going to tie yourself up in the tree?
2006-08-15, 12:22 PM #3
I couldn't get myself to hang, the tape kept breaking.

Note to everyone. Gorilla tape doesn't hold 120lbs very well.

I wanted to, I really did. But my little brother was a whiny ***** about it and said "NO SAM, NO! DON'T DO IT!"

The cat's perfect size, too.

Gaffer tape? Never heard of it. This is black, ultra sticky tape. Hard to even get off the roll. But I do know a 150lb 10 year old. He's my little brother...don't think the tree would hold him.
I had a blog. It sucked.

[edit] i checked, gorilla tape is duct tape, i reckon you're just not doing it properly, i think that if the branch can hold the person, the gaffer tape can keep them in place, just mummify em in it.[/edit]
2006-08-15, 1:15 PM #17
Ah. I think this tape is stronger than duct tape, actually.

I may try that again tomorrow or sometime. I just can't figure out a good way to stay stuck to the tree.

What we were trying was I stuck both hands to the tree limb, and my brother put tons of the tape on my hands. Like, 4 - 5 long strips to get me connected to the tree per hand. I think the problem may have been my hands started sweating and so the adhesive kinda came un-stuck.

Another thing I tried was getting a long piece, tossing it over the tree limb, and grabbing the other end. Then I lifted my feet off the ground and hung there, it broke. Ideas on how to stick to the tree?

Smooth Rob. You're not funny anymore. Your sarcastic, sadistic attitude is just getting tired, old, and boring. Go kill yourself.

So rob is offically a Maddox wanna-be then?

Ive been knowing that for ages.

You suck at sticking to trees.

Grab the tree. don't use singular long pieces: WRAP the tape from your hand to the tree. Over and over again. Eventually, your hands will be balls of tape.

You'll stick.

A better method would be to place you lengthwise along the tree limb, and tape around and around and around you and the limb. It'd probably work. You can take a full grown man to a wall like jesus with ductape.

Kirby, we're not all midgets. We can't be covered with a single roll of tape easily. Hell, we can't be covered with a single STRIP like you.

dammit monoxide, stop trying to be cocky, you cant even manage to come off like a jackass, its like kicking children in the teeth, funny to watch but mostly worthless, because they'll grow new teeth anyway.
2006-08-15, 2:29 PM #37
The only thing more annoying than Monoxide trying to grow a pair is Zloc trying to brighten his boring life with duct tape.

How about a lead parachute from the top of a 60ft tree with a video? Is that annoying? Because I'm trying to come up with stuff to do tomorrow..

Well this thread went downhill fast.

Just to note: kyle90 approves of taping things to trees.
