Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory question
2006-08-15, 5:19 PM #1
I installed it last night, and was playing around with it a little. I have a question that's pretty important for gameplay.

In the interaction menus, I seem only able to select the first option. In the training videos and the manual, I didn't find anything about how to select the other options. Didn't see it in the controls menu either.

use your forward/backwards movement keys to choose different options

i wanted to say RTFM but i CTFM and it wasn't ITFM

Yeah, I think I'm doing something wrong. When the Interaction menu appears with more than one option and I press forward/backward, Fisher moves forward and backward. If I try to press the space bar first, it just selects the first option automatically.

Ah, if I hold down the space bar, and then move the mouse wheel, it toggles through the options.

Thanks!

Just a heads up Chewbubba, Choas Theory has that Starforce crap with it, that supposedly screws up your disk drives. I started having problems with my drives after I had it installed for a while, so you might want to go ahead and finish it soon.

oh yeah forgot to mention you'll want to hold down the spacebar while using the movement keys (mouse wheel works too... mine is a tad too sensitive for that purpose)

I'll never get Chaos Theory because I don't want that **** infecting my computer. I've got a site bookmarked that keeps a list of all SF infected games.

No, he fails at life.

Seriously, it's PAINFULLY easy to grab the VERY first guard. You're a complete idiot if you can't. Harsh? Yes. But totally true.

Just wait till you get to the bank robbing level. That was one of my best gaming experiences ever.

YES! I *loved* that level. It was incredible.

So much fun. So what if it has starforce? It's easy enough to remove once you dont want to play the game any more.

Oh GOD yes.... the Bank level freaking OWNS. That's my favorite one to play as an FPS. Dump the stealth rules, break out the SC-20k, set of all the alarms, THEN play through the level.

Amen, brother. Amen. Honestly, best Splinter Cell level EVER.

EVER.

Just do what Phoenix suggested...so much fun.

That was a heap of fun! I liked it, and now I'll have to get my hands on the previous episodes of SC.

I've uninstalled the game. What else do I need to do to make sure Starforce is gone?

I found this "Starforce removal tool", but I dunno, I'm kinda suspicious of it:

I'm at the final mission, can't beat it though. Have you tried playing it as an FPS before you do that though? I HIGHLY suggest it.

No, and I already uninstalled it.

I had to use the OCP a lot, and in the room where the computer servers are, I had to hack the optical scanner in the corner to get the servers to come back up out of the floor. I bet that's where you're stuck.

Old copies of the game have it. It was removed on newer copies.
Pissed Off?

Nope. I beat that part. I'm at the bit where you just dropped out of the elevator, after you saw the "cutscene" with the dude on the big screen (I paid NO attentiont to the story. Skipped all of it). The part where there's all those wall mines, and blowing up one destroys them all in the corridor. There's a room after that with a sliding turret and 2 guys I believe. I dunno, haven't played it in a few months.

Wow. The first guard, like, presents his back to you and paints a bullseye on it. You just have to wait for more than 3 seconds. Like, until he finishes talking? :v:
DO NOT WANT.
2006-09-02, 10:08 AM #23
Zloc, you're about 7 minutes from the end. Blow up all the guards by shooting a wall mine. Go into the room, use the OCP on the turret, then climp over the wall on your immediate right and sneak along the side. You can drop right behind the two soldiers on the other end. Make sure you OCP the gun again, then knife them. Now go handle your computer business. Sneak back the same way; another guard or two will show up at the opposite end. Knife them, then head on. From there on it's easy.

Will do, next time I have a friend over. We always play SC.

I'm still stuck trying to kill Shetland. Deativated his first bomb, think I did the second, and then I can't for the life of me get back out of that damn hole and kill the two soldiers that walk in before they cap me. I gave up. I left it sitting for MONTHS before I went back and progressed that much further, it can sit a few more months before I decide I'll try and tackle that frustration again.

Go back a little ways, and retrieve a wall mine from one of the walls on the way in (you may have to load an older save game). Then, as soon as you enter the boiler room (the one with the bombs), place a mine nearby. You won't have to worry about the soldiers.
2006-09-02, 8:21 PM #27
See, now, that's something I seriously should've thought of, but I use those damn mines so infrequently I forget I have them.

Of course, your suggestion doesn't do me much good at this point. I quicksaved after deactivating both bombs, so I'm stuck down there with no way to place that mine. And I'm DEFINATELY not replaying the whole mission just so I CAN do that.

I had to do a bit more than that. I placed the mine, but they walked so slowly, they didn't set it off. So, after I climbed out of the hole from the second bomb, I fired the shotgun a couple of times. That brought them running. :)

You can shoot the mine to set it off.
