Questions about race.

I was filling out forms today and I just had curious thoughts when I came to this.

Just want to be clear on some concepts of race.

If a form gives you only these options and you have a Middle-Eastern decent, what would you fill out? Asian?

Can Latino and Hispanic be considered a seperate race along with those on the bottem row? I know "Latino or Hispanic" can include a wide range of backgrounds, so it isn't surprising to check off Hispanic/Latino and White, Asian, Black etc?

I've never seen a person with 255,255,255 skin color nor 0,0,0

As for me, there's only white, black and other.

I love how it says chhose one or more, choose them all!

Seriously hough, that form is racist, it's missed loads out and doesn't even have the common (at least in England) "Other (please specify)" option.

Make a write-in box that says...Vulcan.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Just out of curiosity, did the header for that form have an eagle perched on a swastika?

No.

It was a ILS form for immigration (N-400, Application for Naturalization).

Job for summer.

I want to know why most forms like this even need a race section. Why does my bank need to know my race? Are they going to treat me differently because of it? No because that's racism. Why do they need to know it at all?

So they can include in their annual reports how many minorities they employ.

(Benefits, tax discounts (?), etc.)

Same reason colleges do it (for 'diversity')

Whenever they word it like that, I always mark myself as Asian. I'm white, but I'm a quarter Russian. Russia is in Asia (which is a continent, not a race), which makes Russians Asians. Which makes me a minority.

They should supply a table where you can provide a HTML colour code for your skin colour instead
The tips at the end of shoelaces are called "aglets". Their true purpose is sinister.

Really? I've been believing Russian would be considered "white."

No, Russia is considered Eurasia, notice the Eur at the beginning, as in Europe, as in, Russia is not just asian, so you providing such a ridiculous blanket-statement about the people of a country that spans eleven time-zones is amazing.

There's Western Russia, which is predominately white and Europen and there is Eastern Russia, which is predominately Asian.

Well, Eurasia is not a choice in most surveys. My family was close to Kazakhstan, which I would never consider part of Europe.

Besides, if a middle eastern person would have to check Asian, I think people who are neighboring Mongolia would be "Asian" also. Pardon me for being "Ridiculous."

You should be, it's ridiculous to call the soverign nation of Kazakhstan "Russia."

Which is still too vague, caucasians didn't spread just west, they went east as well, Celtic tribes came from Kazakhstan originally.
