I caught a fish once. Then my dad tried to make us eat it. It was gross.

I've never understood the pride in catching really big fish. It's like being proud of kicking over the biggest sandcastle on a beach. "Oh man you should have seen that sandclastle, it was soooo big" :psyduck:

That's a big fish

Except its infinitely harder to catch the big fish then to kick over the sandcastle...

The way you're holding it makes it look bigger than it really is.
2006-08-18, 2:24 PM #17
Yeah. Maybe its just as big as Monoxide.

Nah, a little bigger.

But the complexion is about right.

Yeah, but it was in the VIP room after a few jagers at about 2AMish. I don't really like to talk about it.

Well, since it's all luck, it actually takes no effort at all.

Getting it on the line takes no effort.

Reeling it in when it is 500 yds away is a different story :psyduck:

Compared to the amount of work the fish put into getting that huge it's nothing :P

Are you commenting on cruelty to fish? Come on. It's a fish. It's not even cute or fun to pet...it can't even have a cute or advantageous personality. It basically exists to eat, and in turn, be eaten.

Well, there's bait, line location, and all that too, but when it comes down to it, it's really chance as to weather the big fish will coincide with your line. It sort of like camping one mob just to get a rare drop.

my fish was cute :gbk:

Seriously though I just think it's funny that people take pride in finding the biggest and most impressive specimen of something, and then removing it from existence entirely. It's not a PETA thing, just that if there's a 5-foot catfish in Lake Wobegon and you catch the catfish, now there's no more 5-foot catfish for people to say "holy crap a 5 foot catfish"

hehe that was an awesome episode

Back on subject, I'm not saying people shouldn't do it because it's wrong, I'm saying it's funny. lol lol. :psyduck:

Try tagging along with a sports fisherman for a week. You'd see that it involves know the exact location, depth, bait, size of bait, etcetera.

But for all of that you still can't be sure the fish will be there. Catching a bigger fish than your partner is simply becase the fish bit you line and not his.
2006-08-19, 10:11 AM #30
Yeah, that long but most probably not weighing even half of that.

Getting a fish to bite your line is 1/2 luck, and 1/2 skill+knowldge+equipment, BUT getting the fish reeled in without loosing him, with out braking the line, pole or losing the hook is where the real fight and passion is... you'll probably fail on your first try.
Nothing to see here, move along.

This is one of the rare times when I am forced to agree with SF_GoldG_01. People who say "durr fishing take no skillz" have absolutely no idea what they're talking about whatsoever.

And by knowing what you're doing you can maximize your chances. Choosing the right spot to fish, staying quiet, using the correct baits, among other things.
