My infected home PC, help PLEASE

Seems I have a bit of an issue with my home PC.

When i checked the task manager performance tab it told me Im at 100% CPU processing . This is when nothing is running so something is amiss.

I reformatted my harddrive (nothing important was on it) and reinstalled windows (I have windows 2000) but now its still running at 100% CPU AND NOW random advert windows are popping up every time i open a browser window :psyduck: frusterating as all heck. AVG says its some trogan horses or something that it cant get rid of (When I reinstalled I quickly downloaded and installed AVG before CPU moved up to 100%)

Any idea on how to fix this? Anyone else had this and find a solution?

Ouch for the trojan, but I'm fairly sure task manager should list it as near enough 100% when you're not running anything.

Well, going by what mb told me yonks ago.
nope.

Try booting in safe mode (press F8 before Windows boots), then run a virus scan. It should be able to delete it then.

Tried this with AVG and its a no go. Any other free virus scanner which might fix this?

Spybot is by far, the best way to get rid of viruses and trojans on your computer. The best part about it is that it is absolutley free. Saved my PC for sure

Yeah, I'd try Spybot S&D. Or move to Linux... [http://urpmi-addmedia.org/tux.gif]

You need to format. This time completely delete the partition, and make a new one.

Wait wait wait... don't format as of yet. Let me pull up the appropiate program, I might have a program to remove it.

I wouldn't trust BitDefender. What if it's a modified version of the virus, that it doesn't know of?
Formating is the way to go. But as that's already failed you you need first to find out how it got on your system.
