LucasArts parners with Free Radical

Taken from Joystiq

"LucasArts, longtime custodians of secrets pertaining to primate islands, have announced their intention to work with the timesplitting folks at Free Radical on a brand new game. Slated for next-generation consoles, the as yet undisclosed title will benefit from the combined efforts of two experienced studios. Peter Hirschmann of LucasArts labels the agreement as a good idea, since Free Radical 'has always been about titles with great gameplay and innovative design.' [Opposites attract quip here.]

With Raven Software spending most of their time reading comic books these days, it might not seem outlandish to suggest that the mystery game here could be a new entry in the Jedi Knight franchise -- to be more precise, Dark Forces 5: Jedi Knight 4: Jedi Outcast 3: Jedi Academy 2: Jedi Colon. Then again, it could be an entirely new IP. Just as well, since the only other idea we can muster is a first-person shooter starring a despondent Bobbin 'Are you my mother?' Threadbare."

Free Radical seperated from Rare (develops of GoldenEye, Perfect Dark) to make the well-recieved Timesplitter series. My guess is that their making a new first person shooter game or a Republic Commando sequel. I can remember hearing about an Imperial Commando game that was planned before Lucasarts downsized. This would seem to be the case with the recently annouced Lethal Alliance game which takes place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.
I'm personally hoping for a new Jedi Knight game but this does not seem likey.
All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.

Cool.
I had a blog. It sucked.

Hell yes!

TimeSplitters-star wars anyone?!

No. Timesplitters is fun to play with friends, but SW does NOT deserve that style of FPS. You're freaking invincible in that game.

They should stop making Star Wars games for awhile, they whored the genre enough.

Maybe in Future Perfect but NOT TS2

Maybe my bitterness came from purchasing Battlefront 2, which is basically Battlefront, but some added content from Episode 3 in order to grab more money.

I beat TS2 easily. Seriously, I beat that in 4 or 5 hours no problem if I remember right. I may be wrong on the time, that's an estimation.

Normal. Like every other regular human being.

I can't remember, it was a year or so ago.

Just because Free Radical made the Timesplitters games doesn't mean this new SW game will be a total clone.

I'm looking forward to it, whatever it is.

Imperial Commando

I'd like what tofu's suggesting. VERY cool idea, if done right. Never seen a game portrayed from the eyes of an Empire soldier.

And should I bother with Republic Commando?
I had a blog. It sucked.

yes

How could you endorse the idea of Imperial Commando without trying RC.
2006-08-23, 10:33 PM #16
IC sounds like a cool idea, as did Republic Commando.

Fans have been making levels and mods where you play as stormtroopers or Imperial Commands since Dark Forces. It's about time LEC did it.

This looks like another opportunity for LEC to disappoint me. I'll try to reserve judgement until I play a demo.
