Much like computers, anything electrical can be susceptible to heat-related failure. One thing some people overlook is their cable modems (of which most experience a slow deterioration of reliability/performance), which tend to heat up easily. An article I read recently reminded me of this, so I decided to move my cable modem and router, which were sitting on top of each other in a little cubby hole in my hutch. Hopefully they'll get more air now:

You know if you change the fan blades to metal and set the speed to super fast I doubt anyone would want to touch your modem or router. Imagine if you threw a LAN party. How awesome would that be?

They're already a threat being wood. I've already whacked my knuckes on it a couple times before with it being on the SLOW speed. I'm pretty sure that if it was on high and someone stuck their head up there, that someone is going to need an ambulance. It's bigger than a normal size ceiling fan, and the blades are heavy in addition to that.
