A couple of months ago, actually. Someone messed the computer up good. Sad thing was, I lost all my music because I stupidly forgot that the default option for iTunes is to automatically update your iPod with the computer's library of music, which was empty :(

About three years ago. After that incident where I had to call tech support to tell them that I was upgraded my computer and not pirating Windows XP, I'm afraid to reformat it yet again just to have to tell tech support that I own the damn copy of XP and not making an illegal installation. Stupid XP copy protection!

224 days ago. Hard drive went out.

Interestingly, that was also the last time I rebooted.
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

I reformatted my old Windows 98 PC a while ago, because it got attacked by a virus.

I have never reformatted my current PC, and I have it for over 4 years now. What are the benefits of formatting regularly?

It can get rid of some rubish that builds up and you don't notice (such as dlls and hidden files) but the difference in performance is tiny.

2 months.

Before that I was doing it about every week. Trying to get my unattended install perfect. Could use VMWare for testing most parts, but not drivers.

This laptop has been been formatted.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

A few months. I think the correct term is "format" as in : "I think I'll format my computer". I could be wrong. :psyduck:

I've never reformatted this computer. Came from the factory with linux ... a couple of years ago now.

At least 2 years ago, before I got Kerio Personal Firewall. Works pretty darn good, I haven't had anything mess up my system ever since.

I bought my laptop and my desktop, both preloaded with Debian Linux, from www.laclinux.com . It looks like they no longer have linux laptops :( But the desktop rocks. You pay a little more than you would for the same spec computer at dell or something, but what you get is awesome support from people who know wtf they are doing. And the machine is built well, I've never had a problem with it so far, and I've had it for like two years now.

Which partition?
2006-08-27, 1:58 AM #28
I formatted one of my desktops about a month ago before a fresh install of freeBSD 6.1.
2006-08-27, 2:02 AM #29
I reformatted about two weeks ago in order to get a saner partition scheme and also to get that "clean" feeling.

I formated a spare disc ~2 weeks ago, because I previously thought that it was dieing. But after I ran the manufacturers utility and looked at the SMART output and after it didn't produce any errors while being overwritten with zeros I came to the conclusion, that it must've been a faulty cable.

Never reformatted my main installation.

In March.

I tried to repair an installation of Windows XP (the sound didn't work), and, for some reason, the key that came with my Gateway computer wasn't valid. Well, crap. I had to hard-shut-down the system (at the point I was at, I couldn't cancel the installation), and figured it was time to upgrade to XP Pro. Thankfully, I had previously downloaded & burned the ISO, so I popped it in and reinstalled Windows.

A little over a month ago. The boot.ini got messed up after I tried to install vista on another partition, so I just formatted, because I didn't want to write a new one and my OS was on E: anyways, and needed to be a C:.

Formatted my 60 GB drive last June, but I'm on a fresh install on a larger SATA drive now.

I've not reformatted my Powerbook, but I've had it a year now. I'll likely reformat the old laptop in a week or so, as it comes back to MEEEEEE from Iz.

(She gets a new one next week)

I'm unsure whether my new motherboard will pickup my RAID drives or if I have to format them again. I'll find out later this week.
