Does any one know a good utility to make a texture "seemless" (or is it seamless?). Say a bunch of stones, and I want to make them seemless so I can use them as a ground texture or something in a 3D model. I heard GIMP could do it, but not sure as to how. Whats massassi's reccomendation?

The utility you are looking for is called "talent."

You lack is sorely.

A paint brush, a little bit of the clone tool, and maybe a high pass filter if there is too much variation in color. Talent helps too.

The one your looking for is "brain".

Unfortunately your version is defective.

This is pretty much my first time creating seamless textures from camera photos or pictures of locations, objects and such.

Offset the texture by (x / 2) pixels in the horizontal direction and (y / 2) pixels in the vertical direction, where x is the width of the texture in pixels and y is the height. The seams will now appear as a '+' right through the center of the texture. You are now free to heal the seams as you see fit with the tools that suit the task. When you are finished, offset the image by the same values you did earlier.

The GIMP filter you want is "Make Seamless." It is under "Filters->Map." This basically does what Freelancer said, except that it fades out the middle where the corners meet to show the original middle of the image. It only looks good for overall patterns, however, so use it before you add significant parts like large cracks, mortar, and rock edges. For making tileable textures from photographs, you'll probably be better off using Freelancer's method. You might want to also check out the texturize plugin; it might be useful in some situations.

Not really.

It's a well known fact I'm incompetant.

But atleast I can admit it, and don't steal other people's work because of it.

It's incompetent.

Also, atleast isn't a word.

Also, people's should be peoples'.

Edit: and for the bonus nitpick, there should be a hyphen between well and known because they act as a single descriptor.

See, even Freelancer agrees.

And Freelanacer doesn't agree with anyone like ever.

also, there is no good program for making things seamless, you just have to do it yourself. the offset tool in photoshop is your friend :P

And how does one indicate possession for a plural? Exactly.

'Peoples' used in that sense isn't plural. You say that people's culture.
