Soviets. They attacked Finland. Nazis actually helped Finland against the Soviet invasion...

Still, it was getting help from one devil against another devil.

Psyduck was made for this thread. The very title made me clutch my head in sheer agony.

Chinese was put down as an option. Wow, did you really write that? Or was that added in for some sort of hysterical effect?

I applaud the social freedoms libertarians stand for. I would love to see any and all social freedoms granted to all people, as long as they don't infringe on the rights of others. Gay marriage is a perfect example of a social freedom that should be granted.

What I don't like are the economic freedom you guys shoot for. As if the rich weren't screwing us over badly enough already, you want to give them even more freedom? There used to be a time, only a few decades ago, when CEOs made merely fifty times the amount of money as one of their employees. That number is now five-hundred. We already went through a period of economic anarchy during the Industrial Revolution. It wasn't pretty. I'd rather not see it happen again. The goal should be to get people to be productive for real reasons, like altruism for humanity. Then people wouldn't be so oppressed economically.

While we're at it, we might as well try to teach Lions to be vegetarians. Or try and walk on the sun.

Not gonna happen. Never. Not under any system, and I'm not even sure altruism is a good goal. Competition, selfish achievements and personal goals can bring true results that in the long run benefits humanity. Maybe beneficence as an attitude, but altruism just wouldn't work on multiple levels. You can't change basic human nature.

The rich aren't screwing us over because of too much economic freedom, they're screwing us over because they've been granted too many extra privileges, mostly by Republicans, but by some Democrats as well. Libertarians -- at least the ones that aren't just socially liberal Republicans by another name -- also want to get rid of the subsidies that pad the pockets of those CEOs, and the market entry barriers that often keep middle- to working-class individuals from starting small businesses of their own. Believe me, libertarianism isn't the mindlessly pro-big business political philosophy that many -- including some who describe themselves as libertarians -- portray it as.

And as for another Industrial Revolution, I wouldn't worry about that. The development of organized labor has more or less ensured that people won't ever be oppressed to such a degree again.

Not really... Not much worse than America. You could probably pass the destruction of Alderaan off as a natural accident. Not like 90% of the galaxy would notice/care any more than they did.(They didn't.)

Natural accident, my arse. Alderaan was destroyed by galactic warming!

Actually, I was thinking more along the lines of a massive high velocity asteroid...

From a propaganda standpoint, I would say it was destroyed by the Rebels experiments with <Insert Some Rare and Dangerous Matter/Particles> in an attempt to create a [super] weapon for use against the Empire.

I was never fond of the Rebel Alliance anyway... I have problems understanding their reasons for conflict.
