I've lived in FL since I was 5 so 18 years now, and quite frankly, I dont see how some people just dont get how hurricanes work

I say this because they cancelled classes for me for tomm. which im not happy about cuz well, I like my classes.

Thing is I can tell when a storm is going to be bad and when it wont be. With Charlie and Katrina, I knew those would be huge, lots of people were like "meh" with the other ones, (after charlie) i knew they wouldnt be as bad, and they werent.

This new one Ernesto, its going to be a 1 at most. Which is so lame to close school about. All there is going to be is a lot of rain...come on, its FL we get rain all the time, and they never cancel school then.

This is so lame that they are cancelling :psyduck:

I live in central Florida, and the Jody and Scott show on O-Rock 1059 said it best: We love hurricanes. You don't have to go to work, you don't have to go to school, there are no cops out so you can drive as fast as you want, it's great. It's like a snow day, only you don't have to shovel your driveway. And since we're in the middle of the state, we're not in any actual danger like the coast is.
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

yeah im in Orlando and I listen to ORock too, but I mean yeah they are happy they get time off from work, I actually dont like the whole taking off from school, especially at the beginning of a semester cuz it gets you behind.

I love hurricanes! but that's because I'm up north in MD and our houses don't usually get smashed and such
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

God I shudder to think what would ever happen if a tropical cyclone ever hit here. It HAS happened before.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

I live in Arizona. What the hell is a hurricane? And for that matter, what's weather?
2006-08-30, 12:08 AM #10
That dry heat outside your pants.

Anyway, yeah. I got a whole year less than Laura up there, but I'm more jaded. Then again, I was born in Orlando. Right now I live in a trailer park full of vietnamese in a primarily black and hispanic neighboorhood. I'm screwed up. Hurricanes are meh. I only evacuate if I'm forced to and would rather sit it out in a trailer and pull out my car battery and DC converter when the power goes out. Then again, I wouldn't be surprised if my trailer blew apart one of these years. I don't care. Never have, never will. I'm getting out of this hell hole eventually. This place (at least my area) is ripe with crack and prostitution (woo, Trail >.>) and I remember 4 cops got shot not too far from me over a span of like 2 months. Go city go.

I need to go somewhere. Best luck gets me out of the state.

I don't know why I rambled. Hurricanes are overrated.

wow, so how do you know when the hurricanes are going to be bad? do your lips detect a hurricane's strength or something? since you have this special power to ascertain a hurricane's threat to humans maybe you should have your local weatherman fired and take his job.

im sure nobody else in the whole world knew that katrina was going to be bad.

anyways, enlighten me fat lips, how's the 2006 hurricane season going to look? no cheatin by lookin at the weather channel either, i want the information straight from the lips.

On a more serious note, I like big bad hurricanes, because it adds interesting news to watch a 5 o'clock. Of course up here in Quebec, we only get tropical storms, usually the remnants of some hurricane or another.

Although at the beginning of this year, there was a study broadcast on tv that explained how hurricanes drifting up north this year could retain their force, if not slightly enhance, due to the warmer sea currents that have been recorded this year in the atlantic ocean. Of course, Quebec scientists and meteorologists (or however you call them in english) aren't reknown for their knowledge in the field. Their work is pretty much a dice roll.

I'm in Gainesville right now, and we're even better off than Orlando is :P Been a while since I was close enough to listen to ORock. Right now though I'm waiting for Ernesto to pass so I can head back to school, 1200 miles again starting Friday.

why I don't know. I'm not too bumed but it's pointless.

I didn't even look at a storm track till today and why the crap are they cancelling school? It was going right over Cuba and longways through FL. I guess they think it might speed up going over all that LAND!

oh and P.S. 101.1 kicks O-Rock in the bum they accualy play music.

Bah. I find a higher percentage of the music that they play to be annoying. And 101.1 lacks the Jody and Scott show, which is the junk.

Rain + Pants = Watered Pants + Soap + Rain = Washed Pants.

Answer : Bring soap and wash your pants while you go to work. Rinse them off with a bit of rain.
