How FAT are you?
2006-08-29, 3:21 PM #1
This is what's happening to America

So I decided to find my BMI.
OR
My B ody M a.ss I ndex... a way of determining how fat I am.

A bit of history:
At once point I was 245 pounds, the most, to my knowledge I've ever weighed.
At that point, 6 months ago, my BMI was 31.5, scratching the surface of Obesity.

CHECK HERE: http://www.nhlbisupport.com/bmi/

I am currently 218 pounds. That brings me down to 28.0, meaning I am now Overweight..
Better, yes.
Good, no.

I need a weight of 195 pounds to be exactly 25.0 BMI (or the highest level of NORMAL weight)

So I need to lose approximately 23 pounds.
:(

OF COURSE, BMI doesn't factor in things like muscle, as I have a slightly more developed chest/shoulders/upper back, regardless.

I'm off to the gym.

I gained four pounds over the past four months, and am only now approaching the middle of the 'normal' range in the BMI. I'm around the 20 mark, anyway. My weight was about 73 kg when I was at the hospital today, which is 161 pounds.

I like to think of myself as 'lean' >.>

Five foot six, 150 pounds and a BMI of 24.2.

Like that actually means anything. ¬¬

6'4", 190 lbs BMI = 23.1, I used to be categorised as overweight back when I used to play rugby (weighed about 215 lbs) but in many ways I was fitter then. I sure as hell can't run for as long as I used to.

I'm 5'10" and 205 pounds. That puts my BMI at 29.4, 0.6 short of obese, which is total crap. BMI doesn't account for my build at all. I have a lot of muscle mass on me (23" quads, 17" calves, 15.5" Biceps, big shoulders and chest, etc).

I'm 25.2 which is ever so slightly overweight, but I am not suprised, as I have been on holiday touring around Europe for the last month and a half, and as a result of which haven't been doing my usual exercises. However, I'm trying to get back into the swing, and lose half a stone (or conversely, maintain the same weight and convert the fat into muscle). Generally, though, my exercise is not to lose weight but to maintain fitness.

I've fattened up this summer, though. When school starts again I'll be back to underweight in no time.

Edit: Come to think of it, even at my current weight (127 lbs at a height of 5'8) I'm still one of the lightest people I know. I smell a rat.

Yes, you can have a lean muscular body and bmi will make you sound fat.

Last time it counted me as underweight for my height, and i've put on some muscle since then. I don't need a number to tell me that I'm not a fatass.

BMI's wern't designed to take account of muscels and etc.

It just tells you your frame in relation to what is average for the target weight area.

Also, you *just* found out about this?

I heard that the BMI borks after 6'2" or hte like, but anyway...

Height: 6'6"
Weight: 155lbs
BMI: 17.9

Surprise, surprise. I'm underweight for my height. I could stand to gain another 50 lbs :P ...if only it were that easy. v_v

I know what you mean. I had an amber ale and a french dip and I didn't gain a single pound. I can eat candy bars for days straight and I might gain a pound or two.
