How did firefox delete them? You just opened it and they were gone? Firefox saves your bookmarks in bookmarks.html in the Application Data folder, under mozilla/firefox/profiles. Check if they are there...

Firefox cuts off the alt text when i hover over images with the mouse forcing me to view the html source to read the entire thing!

Yeah, Firefox does that sometimes. See if you can find them in profiles.
