Ducks, college professors, whatever. Post your opinions of your teachers/professors!

US History: She looks to be OK. Was probably a hottie when she was younger. Anyway, I can't follow her lectures at all. She has awkward pauses everywhere and it's just weird. Thankfully all the tests and such are based off the material in the book, so I'll just take notes from that and just pay attention as best I can in class. She mentioned SoaP in the very first class, so I thought that was funny given all the hype on these boards.

English Comp: This guy looks to be fun. Big guy, long hair, kind of old. He looks to be an ex-hippy or something. Anyway, he's very talkative and looks to go off from topic a lot so it stays interesting.

Philosophy: Just from the first day, I can already tell this is going to be an awesome class. This guy is FUNNY and even crazy at times. He even explained on the first day that if anyone were the type of person that got affended easily, they should probably drop his class. I thought he was hilarious, and at the same time, by the end of the class I wanted to inquire as to wether he was baked or not. Some words mentioned and used in sentences on the first day (to give you an idea): sex, lube, porn, various obsenities, masturbation.

Elementary Algebra: This guy is the only one I can't stand already. Imagine about one step above the teacher that Ben Stein played as in FBDO. Mono voice, and just an utter bore. He also has a striking resemblence to my dad, which isn't weird, it's just distracting. Being that I took Algebra and Precalculus in HS, but simply bombed on the placement test these three years later, I'm going to study up and retake the placement so I can place out, drop the class, and take College Algebra next year. Hopefully.

Screenwriting: Dont know yet, i'll find out tomm. when I take the class

ENC1102: (yes im far behind) well he seems cool, he's young. late 20's early 30. seems like he's going to be a fun professor, and understanding...and oh, did I mention he was hot?!

Film: We watch movies and discuss them...HELLO, my teacher seems like he was a hippie, he's older grey hair def from the 70s lol and he sounds EXACTLY like matthew mcconeghy (or however you spell his name). if I closed my eyes i'd be like dayum, matt m. is teachingthe class

Directing for the Camera: McCaffrey...awesome, amazing, cool, the greatest. I've had him for another course (4 other people from that same course are in this class with me, you know you are a good professor when students see you are giving another course and sign up for it, when they've already had you). And im planning on taking him for another course thats coming along lol. Im going to have to film a scene from Marvin's Room. we will be getting actors etc, should be interesting and fun

PS you suckered me in because I thought you were really going to talk about ducks! lol :psyduck:

OK, seriously -- how is "ducks" a synonym for "college professor" or the like??? I've never heard of it before! People, back me up!

Also, I'll post mine tomorrow, after I have my other half of my classes.

Accounting: I think she's going to be cool, but nothing can make a 9 am accounting class cool. nothing. But she seems like she'll be fun

Music Theory III: gah, another semester, another theory class, and another trek up the hill. I used to be terrified of Dr KB on the grounds that she can tear you to shreds with a smile on her face, but Ilike her now, she seems to have chilled out a lot.

Choral conducing : haha I love Dr Allen! that guy is insane

Revolutionary Europe: I like her, but I couldn't really tell from the one class we had. She seems alrigt.

Fencing: I can beat our coach. Easily. and I've only been fencing for a few months, how sad is that? but our unofficial coach, carl, who I've maimed, is awesome and just got his B rating in both foil and epee

Choir: Dr Tate is pretty cool, I like him a lot

Mads: Dr Florey - I like her a lot, and she's also my voice teacher

Voice lessons: again, I like her

Piano lessons: she's going to kill me again this year, I just can't bring myself to practice piano. but she's alright

(and I've never heard colleges prfs referred to as 'ducks' either.)
Fincham: Where are you going?
Me: I have no idea
Fincham: I meant where are you sitting. This wasn't an existential question.

drawing - also pretty cool guy, seems to know his stuff, too

FYE - okay guy

Math - haven't met yet (online course) seems okay for a virtual person >.>

I didn't really mean for it to be. The phrase "Let's talk about ducks" is from something else. I just thought it would be a catchy title.

I have no teachers, so I'll post about my students.

B: thinks he owns my time. Wouldn't care about his attitude if he didn't smell so bloody awful. Damnit, just take a shower already!

S: hot swedish exchange student. Hot. I've met a few Swedish women here and they've all been gorgeous. I may have to emigrate to Sweden, that is if they'll let my ugly arse into the country. Which is unlikely. And just so no one thinks I'm going after jailbait, I teach at a uni, she's >21 and me not much older.

N,A,M: Hard working and funny fellows. Also teaching me how to swear in Cantonese.

American National Gov't: This chick can talk FAST. And for added headaches, she doesn't parse her sentences. It just goes on and on for a solid hour and she doesn't even write anything on the board.

Calc 2: This lady's old enough to have helped invent calculus, but she seems happy to answer questions so I think I'l survive.

JAVA 3: This guy's only in his late 20's. He's more of a kid than some of the students. He's great, but he's learning Java at the same time as the students so I've had to correct him a few times and therefor still don't know if I really see him as a legit teacher all of the time.

PC Architecture: This guy is an ***, but he knows his stuff so you have to respect him.

Biochemistry: My teacher has yet to really teach us anything..... so I like her.

Statics - Some Asian professor. Talks slowly and doesn't bother answering people's questions (it's a large lecture, but still). Not intersting at all.

Transforms - Asian guy, also talks pretty slowly. I pay more attention to what's on the board than to him. I'll probably go through the semester without having talked to him.

Circuits and Signals - Gui DeSousa, some German guy. He seems good, but he tends to fly through the lecture notes "because they're online." Seems willing to help though.

EM Fields - Nas Islam. Mumbles, and blocks the whole ****ing chalkboard when he writes, then erases it almost immediately afterwards. Almost completely incomprehensible. This class is going to suck. Plus, no book until fourth week of class (was recalled by publisher due to some major printing errors), so no way to check on the homework, or even see the step-by-step solution to sample problems, which would help immensely with my EM Fields problem in the other thread.

I don't have teachers or students so I'll talk about ducks....
A certain duck actually....a caped crusader...a duck who fights for justice...

He is the terror that flaps in the night,
He is the bird that cooks your goose,
He is DARKWING DUCK!

He carries around a cool gas canister shooting gun and likes to use the catchphrase "Lets get dangerous".

Some parents got mad because they thought "Lets get dangerous" ment Darkwing Duck was trying to teach kids to go have sex or something.

His line before firing his gas gun "Suck gas evildoer" also reminded parents of pot..or something.

In conclusion, Darkwing Duck rocks.

I sooooo read the thread title wrongly.

Anyway. The best professors:

Physics 201 & 202 (mechanics & electricity/magnetism): Best. Professor. EVAR. Seriously, Dr. Karas like loved us all. He would bend over backwards to help each of us out with the material. He would hold study sessions, office hours. The man was just fabulous. He even saw that I was having some personal problems and recommended what to do for assitance.

Physics 203 (modern physics): Dr. De Leone was a VERY approchable guy. He welcomed all kinds of discourse about physics. I've dropped by his office many times to discuss things about either the course material or something I've read in like a magazine or intarweb.

Math 370 & 374 ( discrete math & linear algebra): Dr. Kundgen is a bit stringent. But, he does want you to pass but, he won't hold your hand. It's all up to you. He held weekly "office sessions" where a bunch of us met up with him to get assistance in discrete math.

CS 311 & 543 (data structures & DBMS): Dr. Hadaegh seemed to have natural talent when teaching. Explaned material well and was easily approachable.

The worst:

CS 436: Guy was like incoherent and unapproachable. Also was a hardass on the assignments and tests.

CS 441: Nice woman but she was an obvious n00b. From what I've told she's gotten better at her classes. But when I took her, she was just in her 2nd semester of teaching.

The current:

Dr. Wilson: Advocates STRONGLY a more class discussion environment. Which I think is excellent. I actually look foward to mondays and wednesdays.

Dr. Hakonson: Talks WAY. TOO. FAST. Seriously, the bloke went through an ENTIRE lecture in about 35 minutes! Lay off the Starbucks, dude!
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Havent started again this year, but last years tutors:

Group Project: This guy is sound. Really good tutor. Makes everything he explains sound simple even when its not and really helpful if you ever need extra help outside class.

Internet Programming: Probably the worst tutor I've had. He attempted to teach us php but he only knew the basics himself and his examples contained some stuff which is really bad practice. We moved onto JSP and he diddnt understand that it was possible to setup mod_jk so that jsp was accessible on HTTP. I knew more about the subject than this guy. (Though I did get an a+ for the class, so he did notice :P) he took forever to mark assignments, never really taught anything. Just gave us some examples and said get on with it.. a lot of the students who diddnt have the prior knowledge I did really struggled in this class.

Java & UML: Friendly guy, though often got sidetracked during lectures and started talking about completley irrelevant stuff. He had a lot of material to tech and we only had a 1 hour lecture each week but he managed it, despite often going off topic.

Object orriented programming and descrete maths: pretty boring a lot of the time (though not helped by the stuff he was teaching.). Used complicated grammar and unusual words, often failed to get the message across. Though saying that, he was a nice guy and more than willing to help if you asked him.

Electric Circuit Analysis
Interesting guy. His C++ class was good, but I'd prolly be lost in this new class if I hadn't taken E&M physics in high school.

Intro to Data Structures and Algorithms in C++
Smart guy, moderately interesting, but is (I think) Filipino and speaks fast with an accent, so sometimes I can't catch what he says. Especially if he mutters it.

Intro to Computer Engineering
Moderately interesting. Can't say much else yet.

Engineering Professionalism
Meh, average interest so far, but they are nice people anyway, which is good

Physics (E&M)
This guy is insane!
*runs around room* "I like exercise! I like to exercise! See? I did work -- how much energy is that?"
I'm gonna like this class I bet

Differential Equations
This guy is very lively and pretty interesting. He says some goofy stuff, and we usually laugh at least 2-3 times per class.
(to someone in the hall) "Hey you come in here and listen too! You'll find this interesting. The more the merrier"
Another class that's looking up. Better than the dry, boring talks given by my multivariable calculus professor.
May the mass times acceleration be with you.

CS 4380 - Database Management Systems I - looks like a fun guy. He buys the group with the best final project a round of beers at the local restaurant/bar, Flat Branch.

CS 4320 - Software Engineering - looks like he'll be okay, though he's a bit heavy on the stereotypical Asian accent.

Management 3000 - Introduction to the Fundamentals of Management - this guy makes me want to burn down the business school. This is a junior-level course? It feels like I'm in high school again. Oh, well. Some good time to log in a few hours every day in Guild Wars.

CS 3270 - Digital Logic - seems like a nice lady; her stereotypical Asian accent and way of speaking can make her a bit difficult to understand if I don't sit directly in front of her.

I just transferred from a private school with crappy to decent education (under information technology as a major) to CAL STATE FULLERTON under a Computer Science Major.

They don't know what all will transfer, but here's the bulk of my classes:

General Ed:
Chicano Studies: Ancient Mexican Culture
When I read the summary, I thought it would suck, but I needed GE. Then I realized this wasn't the social, economic, and crime of Mexico, but basically everything we know about Aztecs, Mayans, and such. MUCH cooler.
My professor seems ok, he's Mexican, he knows alot about this class, obviously bilingual.

Political Science: American Government
I don't think it'll be too hard... but here's my professor on the first day.
"I'm a *****. If your dog dies I don't give a s***. If you have to miss something you can't make anything up. If you don't want to do the work, get out of my class"
So that should be fun.

(She's actually not too bad on the normal days, she's very interesting to listen to in regards to politics... PHD in poli sci.)

Anthropology: Peoples of Africa
A Coal miner moved to Africa for 20 years. He's like 60-70 years old. Let me put it this way, he has alot to say, but my first impression of him is taking out the syllabus and seeing a playboy magazine in his bag.

CORE CLASSES:
CS 121: Programming COncepts
Basically an intro to C++
So far we haven't gone over much I don't already know, so that's a good thing.
Professor is asian, sometimes hard to listen to but not if you're paying attention. He's pretty eager to help out in class.

Math: Discreet Mathematics.
Professor looks like hes's from San Fransisco and the...heterosexual impaired type. Skinny, one earring.
But damn if he isn't smart.
It's a complicated little class.
You have to be paying major attention to pick Stuff up.
Lots of proofs and theorums and "if this then this and/or this" crap.

Business Law I: hes a lawyer. funny but boring. and VERY patient. there are people who ask some really stupid questions, and other that give even stupider answers.

Accounting II: Cynical middle-aged dago. hes hilarious, but i havent learned much after a week. sitting next to hot chick during class.

College Algebra:(basically pre-calc) some 60+ dude, been teaching for 40 years, another one that manages to be funny and boring at the same time.

Comparative Religion: dunno, haven't had it yet. tell you tomorrow.
My girlfriend paid a lot of money for that tv; I want to watch ALL OF IT. - JM

A'ight, my professors:

Interactivity (it revolves around Maromedia Flash a lot): I've had this guy before, I know it, but I can't remember from what. I'm worried that it's the professor from one class I had, where he randomly changed his syllabus half-way through, which got be a C in that class instead of an easy A. Really, though, even if it is him, he should be OK. Hopefully.

Art on the Internet (it revolves around web design): The guy's a grad student -- I thought he was one of the students at first. I'm worried that he'll be too technical, despite his assurances to the class that it would be an art class and not a "how to make a website with lots of code" type class, but he came from Engineering, so... yeah. We'll see.

20th Century Art (art history from late 1800's-around 1950): OK, for some crazy reason, this guy reminds me of Ford. He really shouldn't, but I keep thinking "if Ford had been born when this guy was, he would be this guy." He's a Harvard graduate from the Art History dept. and he comes off as something of a hippie. He's very enthusiastic about his class, and has gone on great tangents so far, but he speaks just loud enough to make me have to REALLY listen to what he's saying, because he speaks quietly. In any case, this class should be infinitely better because of him, and because I found out I have a friend in the class -- yay!

Advanced Argumentation and Exposition (writing class where you research and make arguments): She seems like a good, solid teacher, with that touch of "I grew up in another country" bit. I think. It's pretty standard here at UMBC.

anywho we watched some oscar nominated short movies discussed screenwriting, it was pretty interesting

and I forgot to add that my hot english professor is Professor Love...Marc Love, butstill, YELLO hehe :D

well, let's see

Philosophy 217: History of Ancient Philosophy - Seemingly interesing professor, although he doesn't use text books so I'm not looking forward to the heavy amount of note taking that will be involved.

Philosophy 415: Issues in Ethical Theory - Really cool professor, went to grad school with my other favortie philosophy professor from a previous college. Interesting subject matter too. Prof already starting to wonder if I'm a "damned utilitarian" or just read to many comic books with my talk of doing things for the greater good.
Philosophy 201: Logic - When I had to drop out of school before, I was a really good ways into logic at another school, so I fear I may be bored for some time until we get into areas I haven't covered before. On the plus-side one of the cutest girls I've seen here at my new school is in this class and likes to sit near me. **crosses fingers**

Art 320: Advanced Topics in Art History: Comics - This course is actually the brain child of one of the professors and my best friend. When my friend rick was helping her form the class 3 or 4 years ago, he was actually loaning her my comics so she could catch up on current day comics since she had been out of the comics scene for years. I like the professor and have even been out on the town with her and groups of people in the past well before ever planning on attending this university. I'm really looking forward to giving a presentation on the religous side of the character of Matt Murdock/Daredevil, seeing as he is a fallen catholic just as I am.

Information Literacy 101 - I registered a week too late to be able to test out of this class and fear I will go mad at sitting there for an hour and a half twice a week getting told hold to find books in the library and search for things online. I've worked in a library in the past and have used computers since before I could read, so I think I would have passed that test I missed.
