Jet Li's Fearless

Anyone looking forward to seeing Jet Li's last martial arts based movie? The fight scenes from the trailer look incredible along with some of the ones I seen on YouTube like this one.

That's why europeans just used guns. Though the bare-fist fighting part was certainly accurate, most practicioners of eastern martial arts aren't, actually, that fast. And the boxer only has to connect once. The spear was interesting. I'm not sure what the eastern guy thinks they are for, though. They aren't for one-on-one fighting. They are for soldiers. And when you got close to the soldier, he dropped his spear and drew his sword. I'd like to see the eastern guy sword fight a master desserator. All that spinning **** left him wide open. And an armored knight would have crushed him.
Wikissassi sucks.

I'm looking forward to it also

Sorry my friend, you could swing your sword as hard as you wish, but lack of speed and agility, will be your downfall.
Nothing to see here, move along.

I heard this was his last movie, but I also heard he was doing a movie with Jackie Chan. Whatever.
Think while it's still legal.

I'm through with martial arts really. Maybe some day I'll take up kung fu again, or perhaps Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, which looks pretty good. But for now, I have enough responsabilities.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Apparently it's his last "epic" film whether that means he's giving up doing historical kung fu flicks or he's given up on doing long films, I don't know.
I've seen it already and it's absolutely great. Storyline is incredibly basic but for once it doesn't follow the typical revenge plot of most martial arts movies. Every single fight sequence is pure inmitigated awesome and since that was the main reason for watching it I was very happy with it.

I think it's funny that a lot of white people have some kind of inferiority complex when it comes to martial arts.

See guys, asians are better at everything than europeans. Did you see how that asian beat all those europeans? He's probably not corrupt, either. Also did you see how much he spun? He looked cooler doing it, too. I bet he's also pure of heart and more courageous.

Their only drawback is their writing. It's totally inefficent comparted to cursive mixed with print. :P
2006-09-01, 8:37 PM #12
Nope, you're wrong there, too, their writing is beautiful and elegant. It's just that our western minds are so focused on ugly efficieny that we have no time for beauty. I know this because that's what these movies keep driving home to me. JUST LIKE LAST SAMURAI.

You really kind of have to start something before quitting it.

It's stupid.

The sword fight was total BS. A guy with a small sword would have killed the japanese guy in a second. He had such huge, sloppy form. I'm a little tired of the asian ninja guy who move like he's neo theme by now.

Yes. God damn them for trying to make something that looks "cool". Although I don't find it that cool looking some people do.
I had a blog. It sucked.

How old are you again?

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black! :v:

Seriously though, what does age have to do with it Gold?

It's not age. I've been fencing for three years, so I know what I'm talking about, I'm not just bragging like some here do. *cough*

It's a tired genre. You can't really make a serious "ninja dude owns all others" movie anymore. The best you'll do is make it a comedy. Otherwise you're left with a very lowbrow action flick.

It's been out already for a while. They just took freaking forever to produce it in America. You can get it, legally, at any store that sells Chinese DVDs. (And I think they may have [****ty] english subtitles)

I'm sure you do, but Asian martial arts are much different from fencing.

The subtitles on my copy were hilarious, was there actually some swearing in the film in Mandarin? because fairly often someone would make a fancy claim about their martial arts and the subtitled response was "BS!". I think I probably missed a good part of the film story thanks to some very vague engrish and missing subs. For example the intro with crap loads of kanji scrolling over the screen was completely untranslated till the end when it randomly went "and he was Huo Yuan Jia".

I knew this was already out as well, but have been waiting for the American version. It reminds me of Bloodsport and that's a good thing. I wish everyone would quit debating whether or not movies like this are realistic and just shut the **** up and watch it for a good time. Most fighting movies are unrealistic. It's a ****ing movie, retards. I know that everyone on these forums are really martial arts experts in disguise as Star Trek geeks, but don't you guys like to watch a good fantasy from time to time as well?

I'm also looking forward to The Protector.

Hence I only critiqued the fencing portion of the movie...

Fencing: "Parry and Thrust". Doesn't always work.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Maybe I should have tried to grab a different clip. I was afraid that the title of "European vs. Asian style" would cause some argument.
2006-09-02, 10:54 AM #27
Looks pretty lame.

But I don't care for Asian cinema.
2006-09-02, 12:53 PM #28
Honestly, in fighting, there is ALWAYS somebody better than you. You just may never meet him/her or he/she will come after your time. Fighting is not raw brute force. This can easily be overcomed with proper training, practice, and discipline. If you devote your self to something that no matter what, always remains your goal, you will be good at what you do. I've seen enough people fight for stupid reasons, and they were good at it. These days, I'd only fight for my life. Fighting for money is stupid, as well as for fame and glory.
Nothing to see here, move along.

gold.

be quiet.

thx.

Looks like something I'd watch. Also, "The Protector" has been out for some time by now - the original Indian version, that is. Its plot is very similar to Ong-Bak (unsurprisingly, since it's the same film crew who's doing it), except now the evil outlanders steal a sacred elephant instead of a statue. Heh.

I mean, seriously. Who'd steal a friggin' elephant?

Maybe so, but he has a tiny penis.

Yeah, but waving your sword right next to you chest really fast sure as heck won't. And in that case all you have to do is hit him in the arm. Speed is not nearly as important as form in fencing. If the guy had properly maintained distance and kept his point in line, he would have gotten through. The Asian guy had large, fast movements. The key to fencing is subtlety.

It. Is. A. Movie.

OH NO, somebody found out..
2006-09-02, 8:03 PM #36
****! Who told them we didn't send cameras into the past??

I still maintain that that brawler would have kicked much *** against anyone who wasn't inhumanly fast. He was built better than most boxers.
Wikissassi sucks.

And the ENTIRE MOVIE is on youtube. O.o

Your point being...?
I had a blog. It sucked.

Yeah, I don't get it. Phantom Menace was all science fiction, with flashy special effects thrown in for the 'ohh' factor. There was like no form being used or martial arts involved.
DO NOT WANT.
