Apparently 'Pte' is Private for Canadian forces, 'Pvt' is more American.

The British army have developed a method to ensure this doesn't happen too often, if they come under "friendly fire" they fire back till the threat is over. It seems to work too.

I'm not joking about this, when I was in the army one of my comrades asked our corporal about "friendly fire" and this is what he told us to do, the lieutenant just looked away.
