WANT.

The spec had gone up, the price has come down. I need to save money for a mortage deposit in a year's time.

IT'S A CONSPIRACY.

At least the prices are more reasonable now.

Unfortunatly, to spend 1500 or 1900 for the version with a "good enough" (and I use that loosely, because 7300GT and x1600 aren't the best) graphics card to play games on a Windows machine is just kind of pointless, in my opinion. You could build a damn damn damn good PC for 1500 or 1900.

But if it's efficient for you, it's efficient, I guess.

You get to choose between a 7600Gt a 7300Gt and an X1600. And you only get the 7600Gt if you go with 24incher.

Problem not solved.

I'd hit that.

The iMacs aren't bad either.

I think the word you are looking for is "phat" not "fat".

Apple is putting the Core 2 Duo on all of their computers probably within the next couple of months. If its the Duo you want, you can wait and get it on a laptop soon.

Wrong again my good man, you pay an extra £50 and stick it in the 20" (and presumably the 17 too).

But yeah, I'm not primarily a gamer, but it'll let me play most things (ok so I won't be hyper up to date but I never have been hardware wise) that I want to. I'll mainly use it for work and for internet things. And it'll be so so skinny and small :D

And Maeve, yeah, but not for a year (we have a rental contract at our tiny house which hopefully will allow us to save some cash) :)

And specs. But the increase in screen size alone would almost be enough for me.

Apple produces some of, if not THE best LCD screens on the market.

I dunno, together with a high quality LCD the price seems pretty reasonable to me.

I used to really like macs, but now that I got a top-notch pc at home, I really hate my mac at work, but thats mainly because its got 1GB ram and I do x-large prints. Makes me cry. And my boss wont let me buy a new one ;_;

/me points to Samsung and NEC

Apple Cinema pales in comparison to the high end, wide gamut and color accurate displays offered by NEC and (partially) Samsung.

Of course, I'm not arguing that they aren't good. I just don't think they are the best.

Really? I thouhgt i checked the 20" version. Anyway, if I buy a 2000+ $ PC I want at the very least an X1900XT in it.

EDIT: Yeah, I only see the X1600 vanilla for the 20". You sure you weren't looking at the 24"?

Uh...you're wrong.

Samsung actually provides their highest quality LCD screens to Apple to use in their displays.

They are the best, and some places still rank them above the 2*07FPW series (which are definitely considered to be some of the best on the market).

I was referring to the product lines, I know Samsung makes Apple's LCD. Also, I was mainly referring to NEC's wide gamut displays.

I would have bought LCDs buy now if:
1. I don't have money and all my CRTs are free anyway
2. They had contrast and gamut that didn't suck ***.

1) LCD Contrast is better than CRT contrast.
2) Gamut on LCD's is much better than you give it credit for.
3) Apple still makes some of, if not the best LCD screens on the planet. One thing I've learned about LCDs is specs are (mostly) bull****. LCD specs can be lowered to below what they actually are using loopholes and other bull**** tactics. No matter what you hear about any LCD's specs, the only way to truly tell its quality is by seeing the screen in action. And the Apple screens are positively beautiful.

[QUOTE=Dj Yoshi]1) LCD Contrast is better than CRT contrast.
No. Absolutly not. A properly configured CRT will have perfect black levels.

But charging 500$ for an UPGRADE to a 20" is redicules when you can get a 2007fpw for 400$.

You can get close enough to where you literally cannot tell the difference. LCDs are definitely sharper in their contrast and the colors don't melt together like a lot of CRTs do (except for the high-end which are nigh-impossible to find and probably more expensive than a good LCD by quite a bit). Overall, IQ wise, LCDs have CRTs licked anymore unfortunately. The only place CRTs get them is "refresh rate", "display lag", gamut and native res.

Either way, I'm rooting for SED.

You're charging for more than just that, but still, for an all-in-one pre-configured computer which has very decent specs, I'd say the 1500 dollar iMac is still quite the steal. Most similarly configured prefabs for windows go at 2000, and that's sans monitor altogether.
