How much does death suck?

What a crazy week. The whole of Australia has been in mourning for Steve Irwin, 4 more of the Bali 9 were convicted to death for drug smuggling in Indonesia, last Sunday my friend's cat died, and to top the week of today my best friend's dad died in a car crash.

Read about it here.

Yeah, my friend's Dad was Australian motor racing legend Peter Brock. He was killed when he lost control of his car while driving in a rally in Western Australia. I was standing next to my friend when he got the news. It's really sureal when someone who was such an icon and public figure dies as all Australians found out earlier this week, but when they're also someone you know personally that really all becomes irrelevant.

Peter Brock is a hero and legend of Australian motor sport, he won the Bathurst 1000 (which is to Australia what the Indianapolis 500 is to America) an unlikely ever to be equalled record of 9 times. But more than that he was my best friend's dad.

A moment of silence, please.

:(

My uncle was killed in a motorcylce race. Bad times.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

That sucks, man...but whenever I hear of a race car driver dying in a crash, I always hope it was pretty fast, because if so, they died doing what they loved. Since I don't believe in heaven or anything like that, if you gotta go, I can't imagine a better way to die than in the middle of what you love. Sounds like he was good at what he did, so he must have loved it quite a bit. Australia is having a bad time, lately, but they go out with style. :(

Death makes life pointless. Whats the point of being born, if eventually you will return to the state you were before you were born (non existant)?
Nothing to see here, move along.

Yea I try to never think of death, because I eventually come to think of just... not existing and there is always that wierd feeling in the hollow of my stomach. Kinda like I need to poop but I'm constipated.

Sorry, man. Dying of course sucks, but at least your best friend can be proud for his father, same as the family of Steve Irwin can be proud of him. Death, of course, sucks, but at least these men achieved quite alot in their lifetimes. And that's more than most people can ask for.

To have fun and not care? :p

...there's a better answer than that, though, you know.

Also, death doesn't make life pointless. Live so that your life would make death pointless.

I'm not exactly sure what that even means, but it sounds appropriate.

I'm really sad to hear about this, man. :(

What's his son's name, if you don't mind me asking? I find it more personal when I pray for someone and using their name.

Again, really really sad to here about this. :(

You seem not to grasp the concept of death. You've probably not been unconcious before, or if you have you don't remember. There is no real point to dying if all the fun, and things you did, you will never remember. You just simply are unconcious as you cease to exist. Everything dies.

Gold, shut the hell up. If you want to debate the meaning of life, go find the Religion forum, or make another thread. Someone died, this isn't the place to tell people that we shouldn't care.

I never said we shouldn't care, I just was stating how horrible and awful death is. That is why I feel sad for any occurence of death that I ever hear of.
