Hernia...

Are hernias big and obvious? I just had my physical and had a Check up down there to check if I had hernia. I was negative for hernia but I am just curious if they are big and buldgy.

Well, you might want to look it up, but I don't think so. A hernia, if I remember correctly, is usually a part of your intestine protruding out through the bottom of the wall that encloses your intestines. So it is completely internal, and isn't even very large. Again, look it up if you want to know for sure. I am certainly not to be considered a medical authority.

No, a hernia doesn't have to be big and bulging. The tear in the muslce could be small. although it would develop into something more serious.

Now that that's out of the way, do you like have a doctor asking you to turn your head and cough?

My dog had a hernia once. He got hit by a car and then it was something big like his liver poking through his diaphragm. Cost like $6000 to fix.

I had one when I was a kid. It buldged a little. You could tell, but it was nothing huge.

I had one up until last month when I had it operated on. Size and such varies. I mean, when you first get one, it can be small and not bother you at all. Which is exactly how mine was for YEARS. But like a lot of medical problems, it started small and slowly got worse. They aren't exactly fun things to have, and can hurt like hell sometimes, but there are worse conditions to have.

Normally a full grown hernia can bulge. My grandfather once had one and it did show.

I myself had a minor hernia a few years ago but it burst before fully growing. I just ended with maybe a few days of testicular pain.

I had one a few weeks after I was born. I didn't even know about it until I met one of the nurses who helped with the operation about 10 years later. It scared me that she knew about my mysterious 'basement' scar.

I had one when I was like five or six, as I recall it was quite a bulge. I have a scar that's probably about 3.5-4" long.

I remember having to walk after getting the operation (they make you) was one of the most painful things I've ever experienced.

That wasn't so bad for me. Of course, I was still really, really numb. But even after that, only time it really hurt was when I tried to sit up from a laying position.

I had one when I was four or five. The only thing I remember is being stuck in that damn hospital for a long-*** time.
