I bought 10 shares of Nintendo the other day for s**ts and giggles. (about $250), because about 5 years ago I remember when the Gamecube was about to launch and I thought to myself 'What if I bought stock before the launch of a game system?'. So even though I can see what happened during the Gamecube launch, I want to see what's going to happen on September 14th and on the lauch of the Wii. Just because Nintendo's stock has been steadily rising since word of the Wii, and I think this may just bee their strongest launch yet. Then again, I know nothing about stock, I really don't care though. It's just an experiment I've been wanting to do. Worst case scenario is I lose $250, but Nintendo has been around for over 100 years so the chances of that happening are slim to none. Who else dabbles with stock?

That might not be a bad idea, I don't know the first thing about setting up an investment though :(

With so few shares, you'll likely see no return on the investment... but.. feh.

Right, which is why it's just an experiment. There really isn't any major risk or gain involved.

IMO, you guys are too late. You should have bought stock late last year and you could've really made some money.

(Nintendo in Blue, Sony in Yellow for comparison)

It could still go up some, but the biggest increase is behind us it seems (after the super positive E3 buzz).

Hrm... This seems quite the interesting idea.

My latest investment is going to be Caribou Coffee. They're getting ready to make a national launch, and the stocks are selling at around $6.50 a share. This company is going to give Starbucks a run for its money. I intend to buy around 500 shares.

Stock trading, unless you have large, large sums of money, and a margin account with a large brokerage, isn't very profitably.

I speak from experience.

Try Foreign Exchange instead.

Define "very profitable." You can make a good bit of money on the side with a few grand and an account with an online broker like Scottrade or something where trades cost you $7 instead of like $200.

That's with a few grand. When he's talking about small sums of money, I think in the hundreds.

Emon, I did this as my primary source of income for 8 months. Trust me, it's very difficult, even with a few grand. It takes several days, even weeks, to earn a few hundred dollars.

Foreign Exchange is the way to go. I'm going to a day-seminar in San Diego this Saturday.

Scottrade is a terrible broker, anyway. I used e*trade. Much, much better. A friend liked Ameritrade. Their platform was OK, but I didn't like their research tools.

just dont buy sony stock, the whole ps3 delayed by 4 months thing probably is going to reveal its full hurt when the wii is released. Not that it matters to me as i was going to wait until it is prooven that i can play any region of PS1 game, ps2 game, dvd and blue-ray movies in addition to the region free ps3 games. If they are not, i will just wait for the ACCC to say that like DVD before it, region encoding on BLU-RAY is an unfair restriction of trade and allplayers sold in australia must have region lockout disabled.

My dad's been doing it for longer, and he hasn't had as much trouble. He has had more money, but he's been telling me I should get into it. Then again he's never tried with small amounts since he's had much more to work with.

Why's that? My dad uses Scottrade Elite, I think it's all he's tried - if there's something wrong I might tell him to check it out.
