i'd rather have a massive mp3 player, the smaller it is the more chance i'll lose it within minutes.

I've already lost a printer and a scanner.

My sister just bought a macbook, and they gave her a free ipod nano (after mail-in rebate) with it. I guess this is why (just released the new ones). The new ones are significantly cheaper, too.

Yeah. Starting them at $149 is going to sell a lot of them. That was the one knock I always had on iPods was that they were significantly more expensive than other players.
Pissed Off?

My bank is sending me a free iPod shuffle simply for switching my current account to a student one. I guess Apple must be just sending them away for free now, almost.

The new iTunes is pretty nice. I was a little worried about that album art covering the top half of the window, but it's off by default. There isn't really that much difference though, to be honest.

Apple just stepped up.

****ing finally.

That is a damn good price for a damn good amount of storage.

I still love my 60gb video.

This news would've been a lot cooler if Apple hadn't cleverly used this new iPod push to completely get rid of any student discounts on iPods now...

Apple has stepped up... but not all the way up. They need to change their blasted music service. That thing needs to be sent to hell. I hate AAC. I hate iTunes. iTunes put TWO library entries for EACH file! I have two bloody entries for every song! AND it won't go away. Deleting them doesn't help. They come back. And then it didn't convert all my WMA files, so some of those are IN the library, but wont PLAY. Then the burn function for CD's only works on HALF the PC's out there! For the love of god!!! SOMEBODY SAVE US! Its so unreliable. Works great for some, and its HELL for others. All I can say is that I absolutely love windows media player 10. It took about half an hour of getting used to. Its pretty much 100% reliable, I haven't had problems, friends haven't had problems. And its so EASY to sync your music to your mp3 players with it now. Seriously... I would love an iPod if it worked with WMP. But I'm settling for Creative. They aren't quite as good... but they are right up there almost next to them. The WMP compatability and less nazi software is what puts it ahead of apple in my mind.
"You're only supposed to blow the bloody doors off!" Anyone who recognizes this quote is awsome.

iTunes is not bad. WMP is pretty lame. Winamp concurs all.
Take that there and put it in here

concurs? lol

This is the worst version of iTunes yet, uglier, more bloated, uses more RAM, and to boot it's been giving people errors up the bum

Yeah, I think they may have rushed the new iTunes to come out with the new iPod announcement.
2006-09-12, 11:18 PM #27
Eh, they'll probably release a patch every week like they did when 6 was released.

I remember, I used to come home from the army and the first thing that'd happen when I turned on my computer was iTunes asking me if I wanted to update.
VTEC just kicked in, yo!

80Gb... If it was 100 I'd be impressed. 80 isnt really that much bigger than ye olde 60.

That new Shuffle is uber-cool, though. Until you accidentaly inhale it...

I really like the cover flow - it's much easier to spot things you haven't listened to in ages. I still need to add a load of album art that iTMS don't stock though.

I always feel like I'm missing out on a sense of community when I don't get any problems like this =/

Well, I'm sure the bloated-ness and extra RAM usage count as problems, but I haven't noticed any problems from those.

I just turned it on now that I've transferred all my music to my laptop, and the way it flicks between covers is kind of cool. I guess :P I still prefer to see more than 6 songs in the list at once though. No kidding about the album art, either. They only seem to have Echoes for Pink Floyd.

Hehe, I just checked - I can see 8!

But yes, I've just filled 2 sides of A4 listing the missing ones. Time to grab some I think!

(I never bothered up until now - but finally it seems there's a point to album art!)
2006-09-13, 4:56 AM #33
I'm still using the default window size :P I still probably won't bother much with album art, though. If iTunes gets it, fine, if it doesn't, I'm not using that view anyway so it doesn't matter :D

If I ever buy a song from the store I usually copy the album art over onto other songs from that album, though. Just for the sake of completeness.
2006-09-13, 5:32 AM #34
My fingers hurt. I've just managed to find and download 60 album covers from GIS. I have 14 left to finish off my collection, but they're obscure and will involve me calling mates (who made these albums in uni bands and stuff) and begging them for digital copies of the art.

I did it in 45 mins too! More than one a minute!
2006-09-13, 7:33 AM #35
Just so you know, iTunes stores the album art in each mp3 file, so it will take up a lot of extra space.

I still have no reason to use iTunes over Winamp.

Also, I hate how it creates a different album in the flipbook for each "Unknown Album" track.
2006-09-13, 8:10 AM #36
Vin, just highlight all your unknowns, hit ctrl+i (get info / properties) and give them all the same album artist (unkown or various or whatever) and it'll bung 'em all in one.
2006-09-13, 10:24 AM #37
I'm getting some major annoyances and errors with iTunes 7. I suggest none of you download it until they fix it up a bit. I'm about to downgrade to iTunes 6 right now.

What sort of things? I've had no probs so far :)
2006-09-13, 5:16 PM #39
Everytime I click a new link on IE, it distorts the music and skips by half a second. Basically everytime the computer does any little bit of loading, the music starts sounding like it's going through a meat grinder. Never had this problem before on any of the previous iTunes versions.

And it takes a lot more memory; it's a resource hog. If it worked, I wouldn't mind it... the interface is a lot cleaner. :)

I like it a lot. I even downloaded The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy to see how movies looked. You download them and they are pretty good size. Good enough that you can watch them fullscreen without THAT much loss in clarity. (I'm running on 1440 x 900)
Think while it's still legal.
