Adult Swim and Pee Wee
2006-09-13, 9:20 PM #1
I am sitting here right now, and Pee Wee's Playhouse is on. Hmm the show is very nostalgic, but I would MUCH rather be watching something that's acually funny, such as Robot Chicken, Sealab, or Aqua Teen.

I remember when you discussed this originally, many were exited about Pee Wee being on Adult Swim. I even thought it would be pretty neat, but, very quickly, 12:00 (eastern) simply became a dreaded time for me.

What are your thoughts? If not on Pee Wee, on Adult Swim's quality lately in general.

PeeWee is SLOW for midnight. Adult swim is based around simple and fast paced logic. PeeWee is SORT of simple, but not fast at all.

Futurama is good... and then so is Shin Chan, but I guess he's over with? I've never seen Pee Wee's Playhouse because I usually only watch Adult Swim on the weekends.

I saw one episode of Trinity Blood and loved it.

Robot Chicken is also very funny, although I'm not sure when (if at all) it comes on anymore.

I personally only watch Adult Swim because of the anime. I really don't care much for the comedy aspect. Shows like Futurama and Family Guy can be funny at times but anything made by Williams Street is crap. I can sit through a whole episode of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and not even crack a smile. Those shows rely too much on stupid humor than witty humor.

Sealab and Aquateen are ****ing unreal.

Captain Murphy is the funniest character i've ever witnessed.

ATHF is stupid, agreed. Sealab, however, is not.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention Robot Chicken. That show can be pretty hilarious. I love how they take stuff from the old skool and poke fun at it. Makes it more fun to watch :)

I've (pretty much) only watched Space Ghost Coast to Coast and that never ceases to amuse me.

I fail to see how "12 oz Mouse" is even considered funny. Good that it isn't on often.

Metalocolypse (Spelled Wrong) and Moral Orel are hilarious if you have ever seen them.

My only concern with shows like Pee Wee is that it (and some of the movies they've shown) might start a trend of non-cartoon material on Cartoon Network, and turn into something like MTV.

The [as] forums are my mistress to Massassi >.>

They bumped Pee Wee's Playhouse back to midnight a few weeks ago due to what everyone describes here. Pee Wee Herman has done an interview with [adult swim] and there is a possibility of a new movie or the rebirth of the show, but that'll be a long ways aways.

I enjoy all of [adult swim], but I can't watch it all, and I don't want to tivo it all.

Aqua Teen Hunger force, and "the brak show" are the worst pieces of crap the history of television has ever known.

Because people like me like TGTTM.

[adult swim] reports that TGTTM is the most polarized show they have...either people really hate it or they really love it.

I think the commercials are great. The show is kind of dumb. It got a chuckle out of me every once in a while.

As for Tom Goes to the Mayor... ehhh... I don't know. Sometimes something so ridiculous (AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!)* happens that I laugh my *** off, but, for the most part, I find it dull.

*tribute to Pee Wee and Family Guy at the same time...

Speaking of AS, any of you aware of their latest acquisitons: Trinity Blood and Bleach?

Also Metalocalypse = WIN.

Tom is awesome. It's the style that makes it awesome, though. I watched is sober once, and it wasn't nearly as amusing as usual.
Wikissassi sucks.

Yeah, I saw the premire last week and I think those two shows are looking interesting, although they don't seem too original though. Trinity Blood feels like a combination of "Trigun" (because of the lead character), and "Wolf's Rain" (with vampires instead of wolves). Bleach feels waaaay too familer with YuYu Hakusho since both shows feature a lead character who happens to be a teenage boy with unusual spiritual powers and a side kick girl who happens to be like a "grim reaper". Beside that though, they are looking like good shows.

Exactly the same as you Savage. I also saw the premire of Trinity Blood and Bleach. I hear there's a nice gun kata scene in Trinity Blood later on....

I don't see the similarity, short of the vampires and wolves jumping around with a similar animation, that's about it. The wolves of Wolf's Rain you could count on one hand whereas the vampires of Trinity Blood actually make up a sizeable percentage of the population. Also, I see little similarity with Trigun that can't be found in a dozen other animes. When Abel Nightroad turns into a pacifist with a donut fetish or there is a Trigun sequel where Vash gets glowing eyes and hacks people in two with a giant scythe, call me.

On the otherhand, the similarities between Yu Yu Hakusho and Bleach are too close. Thank god they were smart enough to not have Ichigo die in the first episode...(Awesome way to start a series BTW)
