Hey guys,

If anyone besides me has been using Itunes since the last update you'll notice like me that they have some issues they have to work out namely program lag... but anyways I still have to use Itunes to sync the Ipod and to organize my library the way I like it but just for general listening what is a good program to do this? I know on my Linux machine I use Amarok which is amazing IMO... but unfortunatly I can't use it in Windows due to no ports. :psyduck:

I still haven't had any problems with the new iTunes =/

Since it's the only music player I use anymore, I'd suggest going back to version 6. I can't really suggest any others.

I'm a little wary of a music player based on a browser that uses way too memory as it is.

Well, Amarok will be ported to Windows when KDE 4 comes out. In the mean time, I would recommend foobar2000. It has spartan looks, but it is excellent for listening to music.

Argh, why did you have to mention Amarok?!?! It deprives me of a chance to mention it to you in an attempt of a totally witty "LOLLARZ LINUX SI BEDDAR!!!!!1111" post. :psyduck:

I've used iTunes, WinAmp, Foobar, VLC, and dBpowerAmp player, and I must say my favorite is still iTunes. I haven't upgraded yet because of the issues you mentioned, but version 6 is good. WinAmp got really bloated after 2.xx, so I only use it to broadcast on MassRadio. Foobar2000 is ok. VLC makes a great video player, but I don't like it for music. I actually kind of like the dBpowerAmp player, as it's reminiscent of the old Winamp or XMMS. It's also as minimalistic as you want it to be, or you can add in a playlist window or display your whole collection. Also, since FoxyTunes doesn't work with it, the on-screen minimalistic controls are kind of nice.

Winamp ain't bloated at all now. That was the 3x series. It's been totally redone and brought back to the good ole roots on Winamp5.

I'm definately an advocate of Winamp. Too many awesome features and no bloat.

I guess if you turn off the media library it's not so bad. I'm not a fan of the media library feature.

I've been running iTunes 7 since a few hours after it was publicly released. Zero problems of any signifigance thus far. My only two issues are things I haven't heard mentioned anywhere else. I can't keep my iPod in the source list anymore, and the built in Visulizations have horrible frame rate and lag up my computer if DirectX is being used while iTunes is windowed. Fullscreen I don't have that issue.

Aside from those two very minor things.... No problems.

As for winamp.... Only reason I keep it around anymore is so I have something to play random audio files so I don't clog up my Library with crap.

I would die without it.

MusikCube sounds like what you want. foobar2000 is excellent as Malus pointed out, but not exactly user friendly. It is very powerful but not very easy to configure to desired preferences your first time.

As an aside - are there any iTunes alternatives for mac? I do live iTunes, but sometimes I want something a little more like foobar - small and simple.

Is there an AmaroK port to OS X?

Winamp hasn't been bloated since 5.x. It went back to 2.x settings by default, and the only thing it has in common with 3.x is that you can use the 3.x skins (which are awesome, some of them.)

That said...you could always use winamp 2.x if you really wanted to, but winamp 5 is just...a lot better. And a lot more worth it.

Is it in Darwinports? If not, it will definitely be ready when KDE4 comes out.
