Sudan and the Darfur Conflict

Has anyone noticed lately its escalation? UN Peacekeepers are now being barred from entering Sudan. I'm really afraid it's going to explode any day now--and then we'll see yet another tragedy. The sad thing is, I followed it for a little while on CNN, then flipping over to Fox news saw nothing about it, yet a whole lot on the "Iran situation".

Fox news sucks.

What's everyone else's thoughts on the situation?

I'm usually too lazy to read anything but FARK headlines, so I'm not exactly as well versed on current affairs as I should be.

In any case, I can say with complete certainty that FOX News does suck.

The death toll has been high enough for me to consider it a disaster for years now.

Never heard of it...
Damn my cable not getting CNN!

It's not really news, per se. Neither Fox News or CNN has anything about it prominently placed on their websites. Probably you saw a report that was scheduled to appear in one of their routine programs as opposed to "breaking news" which is why you didn't see anything similar at the same time on Fox.

I say it's not really news because it's the same old genocide that nobody really cares to act on. I have opinions on why that is.

Are you suggesting that it's not already a tragedy?

Just another point of hypocrisy from the left. "Bush had no right to liberate Iraq!" "OMG WTF, why isn't Bush doing anything about Darfur??!?!"
Wikissassi sucks.

Ah Christ...
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

I don't see the hyprocricy here. In Darfur people (as you claim from the "left") are talking about preventing a conflict and truley preserving peace.

In Iraq, there was a state of peace that was changed when we invaded them.

This isn't about liberating them from any certain form of government, but stoping genocide

Well, I guess you could consider it a tragedy, right now I just consider it a tense environment. It'd be like calling Israel a tragedy, which it is in a sense, but it's not quite the same as the Rwanda and Somalia tragedies.

And Iraq is worlds away from Darfur, Rwanda and Somalia. Don't even try to make the comparison. There is no hypocrisy.

My thoughts are that I agree with you.

It's been a tragedy for years now, and no one, liberal or conservative, American or European or whatever, has had the courage to try and put a stop to it. It really frustrates me.

Interesting that the UN doesn't call it a genocide. Isn't it a genocide?

Yeah, because, it's not like it was over 11 years before we actually invaded Iraq.

And we all know we invaded to save the Kurds.

Give me a break.

It certainly is. No one wants to call it that officially because if they do, they have an obligation under international law to step in. Same thing that happened in Rwanda.
