$430 for the 20 gig version. 20% cut they say. The 60 gig will remain the same :(

Not sure if this was posted earlier, didn't see anything but figured to post :)
Mmmm.

Do Wii care? No Wii don't!

(sorry, couldn't resist)

I actually care, because I've been really wanting a PS3 for certain games.

I guess this is good if you're in Japan. However, those in the US and Europe still wait for a price drop
2006-09-22, 3:46 AM #5
I still couldn't afford to buy the game I'd want, though :(

According to Famitsu, Gran Turismo HD will be released in two versions, one with no cars or tracks (at all) and the other, called “premium” with 30 cars and two tracks. Then the point is to go online and buy additional cars through Sony’s online system. The price of cars will range from $0.43 to $0,80, while the price of tracks ranges from $1.71 to $4.26. There are approximately 750 cars and 50 tracks in the game. You do the math.
woot!

It should be noted that the price cut was only for the Japan pricing. No announcement about a US or European pricecut.

Usually Japanese price cuts follow into America. Usually, not always.

Here's to hoping.

Bah, We've still got to wait until March anyway. I guess Sony won't be selling all those PS3s for christmas. :P
nope.

There won't be any price cuts for here. Sony is just realizing how much the Wii will destroy them in Japan and are trying to make it more appealing (HDMI is now included in the cheap PS3 too which is the only one this price cut affects).

That Gran Turismo thing is such a freaking rip off.

~$461.25 for all the cars
~$149.25 for the tracks
~$50 for the game

Grand total: approximately $660.5.

I think it's $60 for the game.
2006-09-22, 12:30 PM #13
$10 in that scheme of things really doesn't matter that much.
Pissed Off?

The cheap PS3 is still pretty useless.

Wow, that's just really stupid. So stupid it's annoying. I really hope this backfires badly, so it doesn't become a trend. But then, it's already happening with other things already. Half life episodes are annoying enough to me. What's the next "evolution"? You just rent games for $10 a day? Man, I hope someone pirates the **** outta that game.
2006-09-22, 12:55 PM #16
Actually, I think the marketing for the new GT game is pretty good, minus the paying $50-$60 for such a small base of the game. It should either be super-cheap for the base, or it should come with $50-$60 worth of game material.

No price drop until some time 2007 outside of Japan.

God am I ever glad the wii is so cheap.

Between the wii, finishing my stormtrooper armor in time for halloween, bills, and going to a few concerts I want to I am so bonned for money.

Well, I'm sure you could limit your car purchases, in the previous Gran Turismo games you only had a limited amount of garage slots and you had to purchase the cars too (with in-game currency though), so the odds that you'd by any means drive all cars is small.

But the tracks I find very bizarre, moreso than cars those are what you need to enjoy the game. Since well, no tracks, no driving.

HDMI? Nice.

Also, Knobz, how many times has Sony put its foot in its mouth already? You never know.

It's official, Gran Turismo is now the biggest rip-off to hit the game markets to date.

That's just stupid.

But you don't have to buy it all.

Yes, I still thing that's a ripoff though. That's pretty crappy to make you shell out another $40 just to get the game full of cars and tracks, and over $200 if you want lots of stuff, $600 for all the content.
I had a blog. It sucked.
2006-09-23, 12:45 AM #23
You guys gotta realize that it'll come with a lot of tracks and cars anyways. Gran Turismo already has.

And if you buy every car...then you're either rich or "dee dee dee" as my good friend Carlos would put it.

But seriously, GT is awesome.

Sony's in debt up to their eyeballs. They're already selling the PS3 at a loss. They've invested all their divisions heavily into this, and are betting their entire company on an unproven format.

-At best, Sony will take heavy losses and have to lay off the whole console thing for a while. Worst case scenario... Sega.
2006-09-23, 1:04 AM #25
Consoles are almost always sold at a loss. The profit is in the games.

At best, everyone who makes such conjectures is just going of information which is incomplete and inconclusive.

At worst...they really believe that they know what they're talking about.

Sony is in debt, but it's all on the PS3, and if it does well then they're fine. People overestimate their situation, but its true their real survival does depend heavily on the PS3.

Isn't the wii being sold at a profit? AND cheap (comparitivly)? I think nintendo got it right when they realized they didn't need super powered hardware to make good games. And, hell - nintendo consoles are INDESTRUCTIBLE. Try dropping your xbox more than four inches. Oops.

I've got two ps3s pre-ordered. But they are for ebay... I made a 200% profit on the extra 360 I bought, and I don't want either ps3 at all. Woo, cash! Here's hoping for a major shortage. :)
Wikissassi sucks.

Well, the Xbox is strong enough to deflect a bullet. Then again, it didn't work anymore after that but...

Maybe the previous stuff was, but I bet if you drop a Gamecube or a Wii it won't be able to read discs anymore. I'd bet any cartridge based console could take a bit more of a beating.

Actually, X-play did a bit where they took a PS2, X-box and Gamecube, and proceeded to do things like drop them from 2 stories high, take a hammer to them, and something else, and the Gamecube was the only survivor. Nintendo make their consoles so a younger audience can play them, so they make sure that it can take the abuse that little kids can pound on them.

It's called Nintendium, a rare plastic super-polymer that's only found in small amounts in mines in Japan. It's an ugly gray color, and Nintendium isotopes that act as dyes have only been discovered in the last ten years or so.
However, the process for forging a device out of nintendium is extremely difficult and dangerous, and only the Nintendo company knows how. They discovered the secret about a hundred odd years ago when they tried to use it in playing cards with disasterous results.

-While the above is merely a fun little joke about the legendary durability of Nindendo's hardware, the following is true: A Gameboy was caught in a massive explosion during the gulf war and it still works.
